Just wondering if you guys have pics of a Bren Ten.

How are the 10MM and what are your experiences with them? How do they compare to the .40 S&W?

At the same time, how much do they go for on the used market these days?

I loved Don "Sonny Crockett's" Johnson's Bren!

I am a big fan of the 10mm. The Bren being the first is currently commanding premimum prices. I have seen new standard model Brens go for 1600 - 3200 in the last few months. Once and a great while you can find a deal but they are very few and far between.

The 10mm is a big step up from the .40 when loaded to its potential. That being said, most factory 10mm loads are not loaded to the cartridges potential.

For more info I would suggest -

I often wonder if someone could make a Bren ten these days and make money on it. Even a simplified--designed for modern manufacturing techniques--bren type gun would be neat. But I think the days of interest in the 10mm are past. Most who love it already have a 10mm. The bren style pistol would be awesome, but price would likely limit it's appeal.

EAA seems to be doing a good job of it.
the witness in 10mm is not exactly a bren-ten, but it is substantially similar, and superior in some ways.
here is a side-by-side of a witness and a bren-ten: http://marina.fortunecity.com/harbour/347/10mmjay/jbrenwitn.jpg

There are also quite a few 10mm glocks out there, so i wouldn't say:

10mm is far more popular than, say .45-GAP, and it seems to be pretty close in popularity with .357-sig.

IIRC, Jeff Cooper, who had a little input in its development, had a parting shot at the Bren Ten in one of his last posts.
Not exactly the same words, but stated that since one of its primary objectives was for targets ranging to 50 yds, he could see no reason for it since most shootings are at close proximity...

I've got a 10MM Witness and it is one of the best performing pistols I've ever had. The gun feels right in my hand and is very accurate. The 10MM round is unsurpassed in semi auto cartridges as the 200 gr gold dot has nearly the same ballistic coefficient as the 30:30 150 gr (>.200) which means it maintains its velocity better than larger diameter bullets of the same weight, it starts out at over 1200 fps in the original Norma loads and in my handloads and only drops five inches at 100 yards from a 25 yard zero. Muzzle energy is higher than any 357 magnum and less than a 41 magnum but the Witness holds sixteen of these potent pills

Bit of amusing trivia, the Bren Ten actually qualifies for C&R status despite the relatively young age, due to its rarity.

I own a new SM that I've barely fired. I love the thing...always wanted one since watching MV as a kid.

Interest in 10mm has past?

I seriously doubt this since I knew absolutely nothing about 10mm until earlier this year. Took the plunge and bought both Glock 20 and 29, and loaded them up with DoubleTap. The 10mm makes the .40 seem like a .380 in comparison. I'm now starting to see people becoming more interested in the 10mm since seeing mine, keep in mind that most of these folks never heard of it either. I believe that the resurgence is continuing, slowly but surely :) .

I think 357 sig is playing a major role in the 10mm resurgence. It offers near magnum power, but those who found that they wanted more, like me, moved on up to 10mm.

Also the " Monstrous " recoil stories are purely fiction!!!

I'm glad that I had asked this question!

All of my handguns are currently .40s.

But, Crockett's Bren Ten has always intrigued me.

I looked into who makes 10mm these days and it seems like it's mainly Glock. Not too crazy about the Glock design for a 10mm. Heck, not too crazy about the Glock design period! Yes, I have an XD, but that's another story.

I have always loved the BHP design and the Bren Ten is of that design.

I am not familiar at all with the EAA Witness. How much do their 10mm go for? Are they accurate and reliable?

If an EAA Witness in 10mm is the closest that I can get to a BHP style 10mm, that may very well be my next and final handgun.

Why? Because they say that the 10mm is just about THE most POWERFUL autoloader that you can get. It's more powerful and more accurate than either .357 SIG, 9mm, .40 S&W, AND/OR .45 ACP.

I hear that the 10mm is the only round for an autoloader that matches magnum loads for revolvers (performance-wise).

Well, I am a 10mm guy, but i must admit that .45-super in something like an HK USP or a good, strong 1911 is more powerful. .357 sig is supposed to match the .357 magnum revolver performance.

Would it be conceivably possible to convert a CZ-97 to 10mm?

Aside from a different barrel (of .45-type OD but w/ 10mm bore), I assume it would also need dedicated mags.

Has this ever been done? The Bren was vaguely related to the CZ/Witness format, yes?

The Bren Ten is basically a copy of the CZ-75. The shape of both are similar to a BHP. The design is very different.

I bought a full-size EAA Witness steel for about $370 s/h included. For the money it's a great gun. Accurate and reliable.
