Waiting to pick up a generation 4 G17 I bought last week.

I'd read about it before deciding on it over the generation 3, but have recently seen some stuff about the recoil spring being too stiff for lighter power 9mm loads causing FTFs.

This makes logical sense to me, but I haven't seen anything supporting it other than just internet accounts. Does anyone have any links to anything more substantial? I read in one place that Glock addressed the problem with new lighter springs for the 9mm pistols, but haven't been able to corroborate that.

My understanding is that lightening up the spring a bit (17# down to 15# or 13#?) will increase the reliability with the only downside being possibly slightly more felt recoil.

If I can't find out anything more solid, I think my move will be to buy some cheap 115gr. FMJ then take it to the range and limp-wrist it.

Adco Firearms has a bunch of the Gen 4 low power springs in stock. They stock them specifically for those who choose to shoot WWB. I don't know if they have it on their website, but send an email and they can tell you the part number.

I just bought one last week. I called Glock and told them my serial number and they are sending me a new spring. No questions asked. He said there are actually 2 different replacement springs. Call Glock and you will be GTG.

Glock Customer Service is excellent... Give them a call and they will fix your problem.

I bought a replacement recoil spring through another vendor for my Gen 2 Glock I have owned since 1995 and it promptly broke. The vendor said it would be a few weeks since the spring was now on back-order. I called Glock and they sent me a new spring for free. Also in the packet were several Glock promotional items and a thank you note for my business!

Glock Customer Service is tops!
