Our newly elected Mayor is already busy trying to craft gun control legislation.....the proposal is to force homeowners to lock up all guns in the house (and holding them accountable if an unlocked gun gets stolen from your own house and used in a crime).
The Mayor said that "all stakeholders will be heard, including gun owners" so I would like to know if there is already an ongoing initiative to try to block this thing, I'm ready to contribute and to voice my opinion in meetings with elected officials.
I obviously agree with the common sense of having a safe to lock my guns (and I do) but I also have 2 or 3 guns "on the ready" in some areas of my house in case of need.....how this legislation is going to affect that??
Some people are hoping in the WA state preemption law which prevent cities and counties to further restrict state gun laws but I do not hold my breath given the new political winds in Olympia.
Any advice to pint me int he right direction??

Thank You!!

Go to city council meetings, remind him that while all are stakeholders, gun owners have the most at stake. How about CCW in the house? Remind him of State law, cite the 9th and 10th Amendments as examples of why the State peremptory law is there.

I thought Washington had state preemption over cities and towns..

That ruling came from a republican state attorney general several years ago. The present state attorney general is an anti-gun Democrat. I would not be surprised if the present attorney general finds a way to overturn the previous ruling.

Oops, my mistake. Edited a few minutes later. Check this:
RCW 9.41.290

What 'ruling'...

What I linked are the state statutes (Revised Code)...I see no provision for Seattle to pass the new ordinances and have them upheld if challenged...

Burlington VT passed similar ordinances a few years back, but the State denied a change of their charter that would allow the ordinances to be enforceable...

Well, SCOTUS was also abundantly clear on this exact issue not too long ago, yet here we are. I think trusting the system to follow its previous stated rules where guns are concerned is a losing strategy.

Edit. The AG will not challenge Seattle on anything gun related or otherwise. Rob Mckenna (the guy who would be our governor if the people of WA voted the way the believed, as opposed to how they're told) was fairly neutral on the gun rights issue, but he did shut down Seattle on some stupid proposals. You may remember Seattle claimed victory over bans in outdoor music festivals, but RCW 70.108.150 was already there. Sadly, letting Seattle have their little pretend victory may have emboldened them.

Isn't the AG by law supposed to uphold the laws of the state, regardless if they like the law or not? So maybe the AG needs to be dragged into court. But, do you need the AG to be the person who files the lawsuit? Can't third parties do the filing?

Third party needs to have standing. Our AG is a Lefty to the extreme. He has sued Trump 12 times so far, he got together with the House last year to help drawing up a bill to ban assault rifles and "high cap mags" After it failed he said it was time for the people to start an initiative to fix it, Yep, that is good old Bob.
