Any major failures with your Springfield XD???

XD-40 service-approx. 2,000 rounds no jams of any kind. I'm another one that would like a link to the dispute I'd be curious to read the arguments.

XD 45 compact tactical (5") I bought a in February for concealed carry ~ now closing in on nearly 1000 rounds. I cast and reload my own ammo and as others have said it really don't care for SWC. It loves 200 and 230 grain LRN though.

I started shooting USPSA and IDPA in order to become better with my gun. Its fun to watch the glock and 1911 guys have their problems and I'm just running smooth.

Here it is in action. Please note that the gun is flawless but not the operator. :D

there was this one time.... no wait... oh once it... no wait... a friend of mine...hmmmmmmmmm... nope.... no issues...

Had an XD40 4" service.... no trouble. Bought an XD45 when they first came out. I really liked that one, functioned flawlessly but not real concealable on me, sold it to get my XD40sc. Been a couple years now and no issues except some feed trouble with 9mm drop in conversion barrel. Good pistols, very good.

Five XD's Over 4 years-Awesome!

I have owned three different XD ..45's all functioned perfectly-thousands of rounds. I have owned my two XD-M 9mm's for 6 months now and they are Built Tough! Around 500 rounds on one and 1000 rounds through the other. Not a lot of rounds yet, but never a problem. I would imagine that will continue.

The Best to All!

XD-9, and my mother has an XD-9SC. ~1000, and ~300 rounds respectively. I have yet to have or see a single issue with either one. They are my go to "always go bang!" guns.

The question was "Ever seen any catastrophic failures," not post your testimonials...

Not quite catastrophic but enough to put the firearm out of service...

I was ROing at the last IDPA match and a woman had a failure to fire. Tap, rack, bang and nothing. I stopped her and asked her to show clear and she couldn't pull and hold the slide back. I took over at that point.

When I pulled back the slide the empty case was still in the chamber. I pried it out and then checked to make sure the barrel was free of obstructions - it was clear.

The slide was racked at least three times and the XD40 failed to extract all three times.

I returned the gun and went back to the bay and a guy asked me what kind of gun she was shooting. I sheepishly admitted I didn't know. I just did the mechanical stuff without thinking about what kind of gun it was.

The woman is the wife of a local gunsmith so most everyone there knew she was shooting an XD40.

She went back to the firing line when her name came up again and the gun functioned fine the rest of the night.

It was the first time I've ever touched a Springfield XD and I took my pocket knife to it. That doesn't exactly raise my level of respect for the weapon.

It isn't a catastrophic failure like it blew up, but it would be catastrophic if you had to pry an empty out with a pocket knife during a gun fight.

I've never, in 40 years of shooting, had to do that to one of my pistols.

My XD45 service didn't have the firing pin dampening spring installed from the factory (Previous owner never took firing pin out). It usually worked, but the first round chambered after dry firing would hang up on the protruding firing pin.

No troubles with anything but SWC after installing a FP dampening spring.

So you condemn the whole line of handguns because another shooter had a bad round? This doesn't answer the original question, either.

The short answer would be "I'm too stupid to understand the question."

Not very High Road, but then that's just my opinion and observation.

Hope this helps.

It wasn't really a major failure but my friend bought an XD-40 new and we put 500rnds through it in a few weeks time and hardly ANY of the rounds would hit the target where they were meant to go. It wasn't us either everyone we handed it to was unable to hit the target. The dirt in front of it all was getting tore up repeatedly though. Anything beyond 10 feet away was pretty safe.

Keep in mind the ONLY gun we ever experienced this problem with was the XD-40 I personally own a G19 and he owns a Sigma both hit where we want them to and for the record neither of them have had any failures either.

This is more of a QC issue than anything but the inability to hit anything that isn't within punching distance with a 4" barrel is not a very minor issue either so I guess this is somewhat major. It ALWAYS went bang and never jammed though.

I do not have one nor have I shot one, but among my shooting buddies I think I am alone. They own a variety in all sizes and calibers.

And on this thread there are many XD owners.

I believe I observe things pretty well. Some people don't like this, some people don't like that but...until a couple of posts above...I would have to say I have probably heard/observed fewer complaints of failures of any sort associated with the XD than just about any other brand of polymer handgun.

Lot's of people are skeptical about M&Ps (of which I have two that I love), Glocks are either the best thing since sliced bread...the only thing since sliced bread...or they are the spawn of the devil...HK hates us...ad nauseum.

But nobody seems inclined to really slag XDs on any count. Given that, I think that you wouldn't go wrong buying one on the basis of reliability.

loop The short answer would be "I'm too stupid to understand the question."

hmmmm you answered the OP's question that wasn't posed to you so ....... Please re-read the thread title.

I therefore bow to his genius and withdraw from further witty repartee even though he doesn't qualify to answer the OP as Mr. Loop admittedly doesn't own an XD

Since I have owned 3 XDs my answer is still NO to the OPs question ...... ......unless I'm too stupid to understand it.

Well said Fred it seems Mr. Loop likes doesn't have an XD but does have an opinion on it. Then again maybe I'm too stupid also.

Well I truly like my XD 45 and I also have a Ruger P345 that functions flawlessly!!!
