I am posting the 3 most popular rounds and want to see some real data on the whole kaboom phenomenon. I think the overwhelming majority of Glock owners have not had any failures, and what failures there are seem to mostly be constrained to .40 cal.

You can select more than one option on the poll if more than one apply to you.

If you vote please post the details of your weapon.... ie.: Model, approx round count, type(s) of ammo used, type of failure.

I am also curious if any particular model is more prone to failure: ie. G27's pop more than G23's.

Example: I have a Glock 27, with about 3000 rounds through it, mostly winchester white box, case failure..... etc.

Example: I have a Glock 26, with about 1000 rounds through it, mostly speer gold dot, no problems..... etc.

thanks for taking the time,
Dave

My Glock is a 26 that I got when they first came out. No problems yet even though it has shot about 3k rounds or better of WWB.

I never had a Kaboom(not yet, I hope and pray I don't).

My own believe.
I believe the reason the 40S&W has so many failures is due to bullet set-back, especially when when using 180gr. bullets(bullet length of the 180gr. already sits deep in the case even before mulitple-loading of the chamber causing the bullet to be pushed further back into the case).

Law Enforcement Personnel should be extremely cautious of this especially if they are in the habit of unloading their sidearms when ever they are out of service(ie; at home with children in their presence). Because of budget politics, I know the rounds issued aren't recycled until after several years or a change in ammo or change in firearm issue.

Take a digital caliper and comapre the Over All Length(OAL) of a cartridge that is fresh from a unused box with a round that has been load more than 5 times. My buddy is a local County Officer here and I know they have to account for every single round they are issued. If I was them, any round that gets loaded more than 5 times will be the last set of rounds in my mags.

If you're not shooting super hot reloaded ammo it really isn't an issue as the unsupported chamber doesn't end up really being required. Buy and use factory ammo and you won't ever have a problem.

19 -
Maybe 1,000 rounds total through it. Never had a FT Feed or Fire or Eject that I can remember

i used to own a 19 and i had zero issues. i have alot of experince with 2 other 19's a 17 and a 23 and there were no issues there either, i didn't own them but might as well had.

Model 19, 2000+ rounds, Winchester White Box and Blazer, no failures.

I did know someone who had a friend with a Model 23 that "kaboomed" shooting reloads. Apparently Glock ended up fixing the 23 and the original owner sold it to my buddy. Don't know anything else about it though.

There's apparantly 6 kabooms reported, and the only description of one posted in the thread so far starts with, "I did know someone who had a friend"... :scrutiny:

Glock-22-27-36, never a problem and hey 1Man thats a good point, but it applys to every pistol and all this Glock kaboom stuff is mostly internet nonsense anyway.......

Models 17/19/21/22/23/33 w/ no problems. The 22 has the most rounds through it - several thousand - and keeps on keepin' on.

Thanks,

I was a LE firearms instructor for nearly 30 years and many agents started buying Glocks in the late 1980s. The agency I worked for went to Glocks in 1998. I had direct knowledge of about 1000 Glocks (almost all 9mm) in my region and the guys that ran the national program kept no secrets about the roughly 10-12K Glocks in the inventory. I never heard of any exploding Glocks.

I think the Glock kaboom thing is mostly based on some that have had improper ammo (lead bullets, high primers, severe overloads, etc). You hear a lot about them as there is a lot more Glocks around than most other handguns.

I agree with ATW525. Of the 7 failures in the poll, no one has listed the specifics on situation, model, or ammo. I think all should be overlooked until specifics are posted.

Just after I posted the poll someone voted 1 ea. in all the kaboom categories with no post on the specifics.

No Kaboom experience here

I've owned a Glock 17 for about 15 years. For a short period I was trying to relax as much as possible while firing. This caused stove-piping. I no longer hold it like a baby bird. No more issues of any kind.

Also, I worked at a gun range that rented to the public about 10 different models of Glocks. There were occassional issues (typically minor--usually involving the slide lock) but there were NO Kabooms! The ammo used was MagTech and American Eagle. I never saw a customer's gun that had suffered a Kaboom, either.

G22 well broken in when I got it, approx another 4.5K in about a year all factory mostly WWB with some Speer gold dot. Ran just fine no problems.

G34 brand new: 10935 rounds down the pipe since 11/4/05. Breakdown is as follows:
SpeerGD Rem Win AE Blazer Ultramax Monarch
2062 1560 1979 1004 3780 100 450

Ultramax is lead, and I only shot it out of my G34 as it was the only stuff I brought. I paid real close attention to everything that day just in case.

Longest I went w/o cleaning: 855 rounds

ZERO failures or malifunctions, no KB's. The front site pipe of my Tru Glow TFO's has fallen out twice now, but that's not Glocks fault.

Summary...

So...could this thread/poll actually prove that Kabooms no longer exist? Has GLOCK improved their guns in the past 20+/- years? Are GLOCKs better now than when first produced? Should everyone own a reliable GLOCK?

To be continued!
