I started shooting Glock pistols a mere five years ago.
It started with my Model 34 which I purchased on a whim after hearing so many pro and con things from a herd of different shooters.
The gun impressed me enough to decide to buy one of the small Model 26 pistols.
This little pistol so impressed me I ended up selling all of my J frame Smiths and up to the point of buying my Glock I was convinced the J frames were the be all to end all of the classic back-up gun.
It impressed me so much I bought a second Model 26 which my wife promptly amscrayed with and it remains stashed somewhere on her private property.
Recently I traded for a second generation Model 19 and this pistol is beginning to convince me the NYPD just may be right when they decided that this model is the best all around use Glock 9mm that is made.
It is accurate, controllable, and compact enough that it can serve as a belt gun or a back-up or hide away.
The only modifications I have made to these guns involves the addition of various all steel tritium night sights, an extended slide release and 3.5 connectors along with two magazines each with Scherer magazine extensions on the Model 26 pistols and stainless guide rods on the larger guns.
This because at about 5000 rounds I had a stock plastic guide rod come apart on the Model 34.
If I ever see the problem on the 26s they will get the same treatment but so far no problems with the factory rods or springs.
I still own a couple Walther 9mms and several .45s but these are the 'big pistols' that I find myself shooting most often now. Good stuff.

Here are some of my 9mm Glocks (an OD G34 is in both photos):

I carry a G23, but own two G17's for USPSA.
Funny thing is, I tried a G34 for Production and just seem to shoot the G17 better.

I really enjoy shooting my 1st gen G17. Excellent weapon in all respects worth worrying about when the SHTF.

Mark(psycho)Phipps( HAHAHA! )

A G26 is my primary CCW piece. My basic philosphy is this: if its going to be 9mm, its going to be a Glock. I think that 9mm in Glock form is about perfect in so far as weight, accuracy, reliability, size, and capacity. In other calibers, I tend to prefer other platforms. I only shoot 9mm, .22 (Ruger 22/45), and .45 (2x 1911s).

I carry a glock 19 off duty and a 22 on duty....I learned to love glocks for thier reliability. My old G36 was a tackdriver for a small 45.

A few years ago I had the opportunity to go to Iraq to serve as a Security Contractor. I was in charge of choosing our gear, and of the essentially limitless funds we were alotting ourselves  I/we chose the Glock 9mms.

Why the Glock? The magazines of a Glock are interchangable between the different models (at least with the full sized magazines). Glocks have a steady, consistent trigger pull and none of the downsides that can come with external safeties. Everyone and their sister makes holsters and accessories for the Glock. Nothing is MORE reliable than a glock. As reliable? Perhaps. I've always had good luck with Hks and Sigs and the like, but for the price of a Glock you are getting --at least in my experience-- the same accuracy, the same dependability, and the same overall quality in your handgun with $$$ left over to personalize the sights, grips (hogue, skateboard tape, etc), and lights/lasers and whatnot.

Why 9mm? It is the universal round. Essentially the only combat round found all over the world. And --with the right ammo-- as effective as any .45 with a better magazine capacity. Let us not turn this into a 9mm vs. everything else debate, I am just pointing out that it is effective enough for use and found everywhere.

The Glock 9mm is ideal for almost anything: personal defense, concealed carry, home security, taking over small, 3rd world countriest, etc. It may not be as sexy as an Hk or Sig... in fact, the Glock looks like it was drawn by a child or built out of legos... but it does its job well. Very well, indeed.

I wouldn't say that I am "into" them, but my G17 and G26 are good utilitarian weapons that do what they were designed to do.

Not sexy or fancy, ugly as a rock, but they always go bang when I pull the trigger.

I've learned to love 'em!

1st gen G17, 2nd gen G19, 3rd gen G19 (night pistol). All have XS 24/7 Big Dots. Benn into Glocks for only about 4 years. had to teach my self to shoot them. Funny thing is that each has enough of a different feel that I shoot them differently. I am at my best with the 17.

I have a 2nd Gen G26 and 3rd Gen G19. Very reliable and good accuracy.

Wish that the Gen3 pistols also came without the finger grooves. The tactical rail on the dust cover is useful and has a Glock Tactical G10 light attached.

Also full size magazines fit in both my G26 and G19. Saves in keeping of spares since their internals are also the same. It is the first pistol I am able to breakdown completely without having to bring to a gunsmith. You just need to have the prescribed Glock tool and your good to go.

I have a G19 I bought on a whim. I never thought I'd be a 9mm fan, or a Glock fan. Now I'm both. I think the platform and the cartridge suit each other. Very reliable and accurate, and pleasant to shoot. Shoots cheap ammo that can be found anywhere, and the cartridges can be loaded from tame to .357 SIG levels.
Glad I bought, hope I never have to sell it.

I think the AWB sunset has really sparked new interest in hi-cap 9mm pistols. I shoot my 9mm glocks more than any other gun.

I've tried to not be a Glock person, thought that some other guns were just "cooler", but have always gone back to them and am currently the proud owner of a 1911 and a G21.......... oh and two G19's, one for each hand

Glocks are fine weapons. The 19 fits me better than any other handgun I've ever fired.

I have gotten excellent service from a Glock 19 that I have had since 1999. It is my main "go-to" defensive sidearm. Compact compared to other pistols of the same magazine capacity, light weight, easy to shoot ... very hard to beat. If it were an airplane, it would be an A-10 Thunderbolt.

I love my 19, and 17!!!!

Ditto. :)

Try the drop-in trigger from www.triggerkit.com. Best $80 I ever spent on a Glock.

My 19 is pretty much stock--only added Heinie Straight Eights, a 3.5# connector, and a heel plug.

My 17 is my IPSC gun. Triggerkit.com trigger, extended mag release, Heinie rear sight, Dawson Precision FO front sight, skateboard tape, and a heel plug. Accurate, fast, and easy to shoot. My favorite 9mm in my stable (which includes/included BHP's, a P7M8, 226ST, 228, Beretta Elite II, 75b, P-01, etc.) The only 9mm that I've shot that was more accurate was an X-Five (but that's more than THREE Glocks).

They're not for everyone--the grip angle, finger grooves, and unique trigger put some people off. For others like me, however, Glocks freakin' awesome guns, especially the 9mm's.
