I started shooting Glock pistols a mere five years ago.
It started with my Model 34 which I purchased on a whim after hearing so many pro and con things from a herd of different shooters.
The gun impressed me enough to decide to buy one of the small Model 26 pistols.
This little pistol so impressed me I ended up selling all of my J frame Smiths and up to the point of buying my Glock I was convinced the J frames were the be all to end all of the classic back-up gun.
It impressed me so much I bought a second Model 26 which my wife promptly amscrayed with and it remains stashed somewhere on her private property.
Recently I traded for a second generation Model 19 and this pistol is beginning to convince me the NYPD just may be right when they decided that this model is the best all around use Glock 9mm that is made.
It is accurate, controllable, and compact enough that it can serve as a belt gun or a back-up or hide away.
The only modifications I have made to these guns involves the addition of various all steel tritium night sights, an extended slide release and 3.5 connectors along with two magazines each with Scherer magazine extensions on the Model 26 pistols and stainless guide rods on the larger guns.
This because at about 5000 rounds I had a stock plastic guide rod come apart on the Model 34.
If I ever see the problem on the 26s they will get the same treatment but so far no problems with the factory rods or springs.
I still own a couple Walther 9mms and several .45s but these are the 'big pistols' that I find myself shooting most often now. Good stuff.
