Anyone ever hunt with a Tokarev?

I guess it would depend entirely on what you are hunting. The Tokarev is a potent little round. With 85 grain FMJ the little cannon with put out 560 FPE. That is getting pretty close to a .357 which nobody seems to turn their nose up at as a hunting round. However if the round does not tumble as stated above, it would leave a pretty small wound channel. One would have to hope to hit bone in order to transfer enough hydrostatic shock into the body for a quick knock-out punch. If not it could be a long tracking process. Think of it like this..... A .22lr has killed virtually every animal that walks the earth....but many times very slowly.

Why does that site even SELL 7.62x25 ammo that's not Tokarev-safe? It makes zero sense to me. That round is hot enough to begin with. Not much point in making it hotter, especially given the limited number of firearms that can shoot it. Granted, the Tokarev is probably strong enough to take any loading of that cartridge as long as you install a better recoil spring. It's practically a Combat Commander, and that's a .45.
I will be shooting that ammo in my Tok... everything I've read leads me to believe the Tok is stronger than the CZ-52.

Not that you should but with good shot placement you can drop a deer with a .22. So the Tok's round with a Hornady JHP could certainly be used to take game if you needed to. But I would want to be sure of a humane kill. Couldn't be certain of it with most pistol calibers. Some use .357 for deer hunting and it works. If I still hunted with a gun I would want a .44 Magnum or a hot 10mm for an auto. So can you do it? Probaby yes.
But probably far from ideal.
