Anyone see San Francisco SWAT?

Most of the time the Cops shows make me want to throw something at the TV. But, a few times I have seen shows with cops that seemed like honest decent human beings. But it seems the emphasis is on proving how tough they are. Might be the editing. Decency maybe does not sell as well as tough.

I caught those parts. Also caught the part about the SWAT team officer saying something to the effect "I know of a gunstore where anyone can buy a .50 caliber rifle. How can we go up against that?" after the narrator spoke about heavier gun laws. I couldn't watch any more after that, due to gagging on the "feel good" messages for the masses.

I watch the shows to get a sense of the type of physical shape these guys must be in. From the Detroit SWAT episodes, I think they had to be able to do 20 pull-ups, 60 push-ups full range and run 1.5 miles in 10 minutes; they get re-tested every 6 months. If that's correct from my memory, that's not easy to do. These guys are clearly in better shape than I am. That's not saying much, but the comparison provides me a reality check.

Apparently, SWAT is supposed to be the top notch of state law enforcement, and each member has to be invited first. From watching the SWAT and DEA shows, I have a better impression of SWAT teams than of DEA teams.

Another reason to not pay for television. Even if you don't watch the garbage channels, you're still supporting them

The San Francisco incident was the famous "101 California St. killings" and directly resulted in Black Talon bullets getting pulled as a retail ammunition (which actually increased demand and recognition.)

Are you sure about this? The "101 California massacre" was a factor in the Clinton 1994 Federal AW ban, but as far as I know had nothing to do with Winchester pulling BTs from the shelves. They *did* stop selling to the public, but it was for touchy feely fuzzy PR reasons and not related to any incident in particular.
