Okay gents, I just purchased a PTAC AR15 mid length upper from PSA. I need to pick up a rear iron sight. This will be a beater rifle, so I'm not interested in spending a lot of cash. What are your recommendations? I've seen some UTI sights in the $30-$40 range. Is that the way to go?

Thanks, and may you all have a blessed day, free from others attempting to suppress your happiness.

Thanks Jacob. Can you be more specific as to the exact model? I have very limited experience with the AR platform, and it's my understanding that the type of rear sight needed is somewhat dependent upon the front sight used. I think my front sight is an "A2" style (whatever that means!). Do you have any direction to give me? Thanks!

Look for mbuis or something like that. I forget how thy spell it. There might be a gen 1 & 2 but I think they are same model. It's just a plastic folding rear sight which is durable and lightweight.

Taliv is correct. They call it the magpul mbus and there is little difference between gen 1 and 2.

Just remember that the MBUS is a backup sight. It is intended to be folded down on a gun using optics, and then popped up if that optic malfunctions. It is not intended to be the primary rear sight on a rifle.

I do not intend to use optics on this carbine. Hence, is the Magpul mbus good enough on it's own? If not, why?

Thank you.

It is designed to be a backup but it works fine for general use. If all you are going to do is sit at a bench and try to shoot tiny groups to post on the Internet, I'd definitely recommend a different sight. Likewise if you are shooting past 200 yards, different sight.

You might consider the MBUS Pro. It's a little more expensive, but it's steel and should handle any abuse you can throw at it. I wouldn't say it was a necessity, though.

Spend 70 bucks and get the Daniel Defense A1.5.

My first choice for a rear sight. Simple adjustments, rugged construction, made in USA.

Check it out.

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

It may be. I've read several reports of the MBUS rear sight breaking. Not sure what the issue is - maybe some people are just too rough. If the OP is planning to get a flip-up sight to use as a primary, I think he would be very well served to go with something that isn't plastic. Heck, I'd give an A2 carry handle some very serious consideration if I were in the same position.
