So, as many of us do, I was staring at my pile of AR parts leftover from other builds, thinking "Hmm, if I just had a few of this, and one of those, and a stripped lower- why I could finish another rifle!"

I had a kinda beat-up 9mm upper and an old Colt .22LR conversion bolt to base the build on-

This kit seats itself against the loop of the lower receiver buffer tube mount, so no actual buffer or spring is required, leaving the tube empty and saving a few bucks. The kit came with 2 10-round magazines.

MrAwesome22-250 hooked me up with a great PSA 18" stainless barrel at a price I couldn't refuse.

I mounted the gas block backwards to block off the port. The barrel is a 1/7 twist which is hardly optimal for a .22lr, but I wanted to keep as much as possible .223 compatible in case the whole thing turns out unreliable and I have to rebuild it into a centerfire later. Beside, .22lr barrels are pretty much unobtainable these days- not to mention you usually need a matching bolt and thats $$$$.
I'll be perfectly happy if it shoots minute-of-tincan at 50yds. This is just a for-fun plinking build anyway.

So, using leftovers, gifts, and freebys, I spent about $165 to aquire the last few bits needed to assemble this-

I'm really happy with how it looks, hopefully it will run as well!

There's just one problem-

I still have leftover parts.:D

Nah. Those are traps to be given away to new builders.
I’m glad you were able to get it finished up.

I finally threw away some flash hiders and clam shell handguards that I, too, was saving for “just in case”. I realized that I didn’t like those parts and wouldn’t use them in a build anyway.

And not to add further wallet damage, but…

Mine is very accurate. Hangs with my Savage on cheaper ammo. :)

Ya, I wanted to keep the budget under the price of a new M&P22......:)
Looks like they have the barrels in stock, but not the bolts. :(
If the accuracy is truly terrible on this thing, no worries, Ill just rebuild it into a .223. My daughter used this exact same barrel on her middy build and it is VERY accurate!

That’s my story on 1911’s. I have built two lowers for Nelson 22 conversions on Caspian frames and still have drawers full of parts. They seem to reproduce like coat hangers.

It might be a way to use up those Aguila SSS bullets that tumble out of everything else.
This has been an idea I’ve been thinking about for an upper. It was killed with the latest CrazyWorld, but the trick I’m looking for is a dedicated barrel.
I don’t recall if Beyers has a seven twist or not.

Put 150 rounds downrange after work today. Feeding and ejection were 100% with all the tested ammo types, though the CCI SV occasionally failed to push the bolt back far enough to cock the hammer. The gun seemed to like Federal HP and WWB best.
One goofy quirk of the gun is that the ejector is on the magazine, so you gotta be careful when clearing the rifle to make sure there isn't a live round stuck to the bolt face- hence the giant chamber flag!
Accuracy was perfectly acceptable-

Thats 150 shots right there, including a couple of rapid-fire mag dumps- granted at only 15yds, however. My usual indoor haunt was closed for repairs today, and the only alternative is a tiny, though well-appointed little range behind a pizza parlor! :D
I didn't want to mess with the elevation until I get it out to at least 25 yards.
Overall, very happy with the results!
