I selected the last choice because I work in a "war zone".

My local area has some "gang activity" but it's not in my neighborhood. I live in an older "historic, or as I like to say, hysterical" neighborhood. Half a mile from here we have drive-by's, "crackville" and all the fun stuff that that sort of living will bring.

I'm always armed, even when taking out the trash, or waking up at night to go to the bathroom. One never knows what to expect. I do not answer the door unarmed. Gang activity is generally confined to gang on gang, but one never knows, does he?

I can't wait to transfer as work is getting close to home.

My exact neighborhood has little if any street crime. They specialize in white collar crime. I do have a few crazy and dangerous neighbors. There are Hispanic gangs in the neighborhood. We are required by law to have a bussing operation from the other side of town. Our local school district was caught running a segregated system. Other parts of town have many gangs and many generations of gangs. These kids grew up in the gang environment.

In some areas of RI there is a fair amount of gang activity, but not much where I am. There is a gang presence in Providence, and its not a problem usually but in the mall there have been small riots and gang crimes. When that 50 cent movie came out there was a pretty big riot. Whenever you're in Providence at night you need to have good situational awareness but its not that bad.

Gangs are pretty common in some parts of the Salt Lake Valley. However, they tend to cause more problems for each other than they do for me. I think the little wannabe tagger/vandals are more of a pest than the real-deal gangsta's.

I don't have a clue if there are any gangs in Austin, TX and I don't really care. My experience is that, unlike on TV, most gangs only care about you if you are either bothering them or interfering in their drug trade. I don't care for their culture and I don't buy drugs. I carry a gun, so I'm not really worried.

In Houston gangs are a problem, but actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise when the Katrina gangs from N.O. tried to take over. It wasn't the cops, but the local gangs who drove them out of the city, and the fact that the citizens carry AND use firearms to protect themselves drove them back home. Many average lawful citizens carry here, and the cops don't really bother them about it. Outside the city, we don't have to deal with Houston PD, we have precinct constables and sheriffs who can tell good from bad, and leave good alone.

Not too many gangbangers here in the sticks, but we watch the news to see who's been killed in Tulsa overnight. I'm armed most all the time, the house is locked and alarmed, and the dog is loud. We keep the car doors locked. I really like the OnStar in my new truck.

My wife heard me repeat "When minutes count, the police are only minutes away!" tonight and laughed as she agreed with it. Her gun is the S&W 681 with the Crimson Trace grips.

Picked #2..but #3 may apply more to whats changing in this once quiet neighborhood.DomMega said it in an above post

Are there gang problems in Las Vegas? Absolutely. There's a very widespread knowledge of the rolling 60's crips here and if you go just a little ways downtown you'll see where their numbers are prevalent.

My living in an upscale area in the SW of Vegas, but still more and more activity has been seen in the last few years. We make sure all locks and outside/inside camera's are on 24/7...and of course more gun purchases and ammo....

where I am there aren't what I would call real gangs. but these little punks try to act real hard. mainly vandalism/burglary, but pretty seldom at that. more businesses get hit at night than houses, 'cause it's common knowledge that most people in the area onw guns.

No crips, or bloods up here in the Redwoods.

The local gang where I live are "mountain trash" - white kids with middle to upper income producing families with too much time on their hands.

One notable case: local family has a dad who is a professional therapist dealing with troubled youth. Well... guess what? His own kid is the worst of the worst (not the first or last time I'll see this pattern) and has moved back in with the parents after "college didn't work out". To give you an idea of this family: they have a UN flag (!) hanging off their house, and a "CoExistance" bumper stickers on their cars.... along with the usual Bush-bashing bumper stickers that are standard issue here in CA.

Anyhow - at one point the "troubled" youth headed off into the woods with a gun (unsure why), leading to 12 cop cars, helicopers with FLIR circling, etc.... now I see the sherrifs van there every couple weeks, I think they "check in" to see how he is doing....

If they pick my house to mess with, they picked the WRONG GUY. I work from home, and am well armed. Would hate to have to re-educate one of these youths with the sound of my 870 pump... but if I need to, I will. :)

Bloodybucket03, ditto, but I am a Correctional Sergeant in AZ, working with SOs right now. Gangbanger sex offenders, one of the lowest form of scum there is.

Edit, Sven, I hate the UN.

Where I live there is not gang activity, however where I work is a different story, and where I go to school at night is worse still.

I have not noticed any activity, though my daughter tells me there is at the high school she goes to. I suspect that they are nothing more that wannabe's, but they say that the wannabe's have something to prove and could be even more dangerous, so I try to stay aware and armed.

I have noticed some more gang related crime reports on the 6PM news up in the Raleigh/Durham area. Not to far from here.

Where I live in relatively low in gang activity - however, there are places pretty close where gangs are. But, when one says gang activity - those activities can vary from tagging to outright violent. The two major cities that surround me - Ogden and Salt Lake City (and the surrounding burbs) are full of gangs and full board violence.

This is why I carry.

In some areas of RI there is a fair amount of gang activity, but not much where I am.

Um, aren't y'all pretty much next door neighbors in that postage stamp of a state? :neener:

I am between 2 and 3. Small gangs have vandalized our neighborhood, but I would still walk the dog around the block. There are some parts of town I would not feel comfortable driving through, never mind walking. Several neighboring towns are known for their violence.

Locking your doors only keeps idiots and honest citizens out. If you have ever picked a lock, you know what I mean.

Limited gang activity in my area around my apartmend complex, but the high school 1.2 miles away is a different matter all together. Then about 4 miles away across the river is crackville, in the area where my gf used to live, but still works. The Walgreen's on the same block as her old apt got robbed twice in one week, and her old downstairs neighbors were drug dealers.

Unfortunately, the jails in Milwaukee are full, so the prisoners are getting sent up to the jails about 30 minutes north of here. Our town is in between, which is where most of the troublemakers' families move to, bringing more & more problems our way:(

The only gangs around my neck of the woods are these all-girl gangs of pushers. They show up in packs and acost people in front of WalMart and even show up at your front door at times trying to push "cookies" with their "musle" hanging back by the car.

Instead of tatoos which would permantly identify them to law enforcement they seem to wear little colored pieces of cloth to prove their various misdeeds for all the world to see. They even boasted about being a world wide organization.
