Are you a progressive?

Saddam Hussein used chemical weapons (with the aid of the US) against his subjects and Iran, yes - what you leave out is that it happened 15 years prior to the invasion.

Thats something that bugged me too. Its like condemning Germany and trying them today for the use of mustard gas in WW1 because after all many years ago they had and used those weapons.

As for liberalism and progressiveism people always seem to give the bad example. Plenty of good examples too.

How about the end of slavery, the right of women and non white people to vote. helping the whole of society to survive by giving them access to healthcare and retirement. The protection of the environment for all people by stopping them dropping toxic waste and so on in the water and across the land. At one time it was considered progressive to do away with serfdom and get away from strip farming where the majority lived a meager live before dying at a young age when their crops failed. Its also introduced more oversight over the ruler class.

Sure its done bad things too but its also done good things in society and there wouldn't even be a USA without it.

I just got through reflecting on progress we've made since the 50's. I just can't stand anymore progress. Essex

People Would Be Unaffected..Original Intent Lost

"Moving forward to a better condition." That's what Webster says. While I would never speak for anyone other than myself, I believe..and will be corrected if wrong..the thread suggests an application of the word in the company of some people would delute the meaning and have a pejorative effect.

Doing this in as many conversations as possible..covering any number of topics might disarm the term "Progressive."

This is a great idea!

Liberal socialist progressives! They have a different kind of America in mind for you! You can look across the ocean to see how it manifests itself after it dupes the peons into allowing it to obtain the power base it needs to then morph into full blown communism.

The constitution and the Bill of Rights are in its way as is Religion so it has to play a game of hide and seek to keep its real agenda hidden and grab little bits of power as it can. The loss of freedom happens slowly and under the guise of doing whats best for the community as a whole.

Well we are always progressing, depends on what the subject is and how much it has progressed. We are always moving forward in time.

Let me point out what I would consider progression to a COMPLETE POLICE STATE.

Reminds me of a movie with Rowan Atkinson, where he is a secret agent who has to save Britain from being a big prison island by some maniacal French guy.---Johnny English

No, I prefer a single stage press.
And I prefer an 8 stage press.

I get it

I understand completely what you are saying.

Some of you are very good writers and I would make the suggestion that some "Letters to the Editor" be sent to various papers and addressing 2A issues as "progressive" ideas.

I dunno. I'm not a good writer, just throwing my 2 coins in.

You Know What?

I don't give a damn what someone labels themself politically. I don't give a damn where they place themselves on any political "compass". I only want to know one thing: "Where do they stand on the Second Amendment as an Individual Right?" I welcome ANYONE who believes in the 2A as an Individual Right and opposes Gun Prohibtion. ANYONE.

Too many gunnies today have fallen into the trap of believing that:

Left / Progressive / Democrat = Wrong
Right / Conservative / Republican = Right

Nixon, Rockefeller, Bush I, Guliani, Bloomberg --- all Republicans and all in favor of Gun Prohibition.

Ask yourself this question:

"Are YOU so wedded to to a political party that you would vote for the party as opposed to your RKBA?"

Are you telling me you would vote for anti-gun Republican as opposed to a pro-gun Democrat? The reason Democrats have lost many previous elections is precisely because of their anti-gun stance. Many RKBA Democrats held their noses and voted Republican because they valued RKBA above party loyalty. Democrats have finally gotten the message, they have shut up about Gun-Prohibtion (even Schumer shut up) and the 2006 election has started to prove this. Pro-RKBA Democrats won.

The RKBA is about the RKBA, NOTHING ELSE.

Well, okay . . .

I guess so.

I mean, I'd certainly rather be progressive than . . . congressive.

And, Bogie? Yes.

Good vector.

I mean, if dishonest people with subversive agendas and socially harmful goals can steal vocabulary for their own ends, I don't see anything wrong with a little linguistic guerrilla warfare.

ask pertinent questions...

LIke, "Are you a Leninist progressive or a Trotskyite progressive?" :scrutiny:

+10 on qdemn7's post. There is no virtue in political correctness whether it comes from the left or the right.

Let me revise...

The "get it" factor is WAY down there.

Campers, the object is to induce a brain vaporlock among the folks who are currently abusing the term...

Which means that instead of saying "Missouri's new concealed carry laws have caused a drop in crime," we'll say "Missouri's progressive reform of racist gun laws have caused a drop in crime." To object is to have them nodding and agreeing, and then going "Say what?" And some of it may even make a few of 'em actually think.

Overall, it'll give 'em conniptions.

And now we'll have 3-4 more posts by people declaring that they're not progressives... Our moderators have suggested to me that I refrain from muttering aloud about induhviduals from the left side of the bell curve endeavoring to rub more than a couple of neurons together, so I shall...

You know something? I have great new respect for the guys who manage to run large matches and shooting events. Herding a buncha gun nuts in a coherent direction verges upon the impossible.

I'm a black man with a CHL (and prefers holsters), and a wife, and a child on the way (from said wife), and have been working for the same company for 10 years, and volunteer my time to mentor youths from the 'hood'. I'd say I'm pretty dang progressive...

1. favoring or advocating progress, change, improvement, or reform, as opposed to wishing to maintain things as they are, esp. in political matters: a progressive mayor.
2. making progress toward better conditions; employing or advocating more enlightened or liberal ideas, new or experimental methods, etc.: a progressive community.
3. characterized by such progress, or by continuous improvement.
