Are you a shooter or collector?

I consider myself a shooter and am accumulator. The only gun I own I haven't shot is a commemorative in a presentation case. I call myself an accumulator as to me collecting has a direction. You collect Colts or milsurps or Smith and Wessons.

I am a shooter, no doubt.

But, I've been known to... accumulate... a small posse of Mosin Nagant rifles so I'm not really a collector but... kind of?

But mostly a shooter. I buy guns to shoot 'em. :)

Some of both. I have a collection of Mosins and Enfields and some other old military weapons. I also have a variety of modern weapons. The modern stuff gets shot more often, but I do shoot some of the older guns from time to time. There are a few of the older ones that I won't ever shoot, either because of rarity or condition.

Started as a shooter. Got into hand loading, then started "collecting", odd calibers are the most fun to hunt down and "collect". More about the hunt then the collecting it seems.

I'm more of a shooter than a collector. I've collected things my whole life, now I'm starting to slow down on stuff.

I have too many S&Ws to be considered only a shooter, but only a few that could be considered collector quality. Does accumulator count since I’ve shot every one of them?

I collect, some would say I accumulate and I shoot what I accumulate.

I certainly want to know what my accumulated collectables are capable of.

I'm a shooter until I acquire enough guns to have a collection :)

Being 23 and tight on funds limits my firearm buying to only firearms that have a purpose and specific use. One day I'd like to be able to check off all the guns on my wish list

I would say a little bit of both. No specific niche or theme to my collection, basically just guns that I like and have an interest in shooting.

Shooter. I don't buy anything I don't plan to shoot. Probably wouldn't, even if I could. That's not to say I'm at the range weekly. I wish I had the time for that. I don't get to go nearly as often as I'd like. Still, all of my guns are meant to be shot, and it's very rare that I get one out of the safe just to look at it.

I think that I am both. My wife would consider me a gun hoarder though!

Yes. :)

Actually, in addition to being a shooter, I am more an investor & accumulator than a "collector".

I own a lot of firearms, but sitting here I cannot think of a single one that I have not or would not shoot. I own no high-dollar and/or rare firearms and I will never acquire any that should only be looked at ("admired") rather than shot.

Even if I acquired my personal "holy grail" firearm (G/K43) in LN condition, I would be out back shooting that pup ... after buying and installing the replacement gas bits from Apfeltor so that I wouldn't damage the piece due to its default over-gassed condition. ;)

A good assortment here. I can honestly say I've shot every gun I own, but many I keep that haven't been shot in some time. While I'd say I'm moving towards collector status, I really look at them as investments as I should have said in the OP. I barely ever sell a gun as I'd rather trade for something else I want, but the few times I have I've made a profit on it. So far I have yet to regret a sale, but I really have to hate something before I sell it.

I want to call myself a shooter,,,

I want to call myself a shooter,,,
Because I value my range time very highly.

Nothing soothes the rawness of a hard week,,,
Than going to the range and leisurely sending some rounds downrange.

I'm a member of a private Rifle & Pistol Club,,,
In the warm months I'm there at least once a week.

But I do have what I call a collection of guns,,,
Some are matching centerfire rimfire handgun pairs,,,
Some are grouped by the maker, caliber, and frame size,,,
And some are a rifle paired with an appropriately matching handgun.

But I do shoot them all on occasion.

Just last week I took The Harem to the range,,,
attachment.php

I fired the 67 and the 63 more than the 686 or 629,,,
But they all got a good workout that day.

Last month I purchased a 3" nickel plated Model 36,,,
I bought it because it matched my 4" nickel plated Model 34,,,
I'm in the process of fitting them into a nice wood presentation case.

I'll not shoot either of those guns very often,,,
Not because they are too pretty or safe queens,,,
It's just that I already have a blue model 34 and 3" blue 36 that I shoot.

The nickel 34 is an heirloom from a dear departed friend of mine,,,
It was the gun her father let her pick out way back for her 12th birthday,,,
The nickel 36 just happened to match it close enough to fit my collection parameters.

In actuality though I know I bought it with the intent of passing it on to a friend,,,
Another lady friend of mine knew the owner of the nickel 34 very well,,,
So it's already in my will that Jane will get the nickel 34/36 pair.

A very close friend of mine has a 13 year old daughter and a 5 year old son,,,
I assembled a .22 rifle/revolver set for the daughter a few years back,,,
She will get the Henry Acu-Bolt rifle and a Charter Arms Pathfinder.

These guns are in a nice little Plano case that I have lined with nice cloth,,,
It's tricked out with ammo boxes and eye/hearing protection,,,
And if I still have it I'll add a Charter Undercover .38 to it.

But that doesn't mean I won't shoot these guns,,,
That Henry/Charter Arms set sees decent range time.

I collect guns in sets with the express purpose of leaving them to friends,,,
But that doesn't mean I won't try to wear them out first. ;)

In fact, I won't buy a gun if I can't shoot it,,,
The closest thing I have to a safe queen is a pristine S&W Model 12,,,
But even that 4" blue beauty gets a few hundred rounds each and every year.

So I am a collector,,,
But I'm one who shoots as well.

I like to shoot but don't do as much as i like. I have my own range on my 35 acres in the country. This hot weather keeps me indoors more than it should, I'm old. I guess i collect guns but no particular brand or type. If i like it I buy it. I never sell a gun to make room in the safe. I just buy another safe. I have 3 so far. Keeping ammo and mags in stock for all of them runs into money.

I'm a shooter. When what I have becomes collectable and (is what some think) worth silly money, I generally sell them, with a couple of exceptions.

I collect in order to disassemble, clean, and shoot as many different types and calibers of revolvers, pistols and rifles as reasonably possible. If I don't enjoy shooting something I uncollect it pretty fast.:)

A shooter, absolutely. I have over 70 guns and I only have two that I never shoot. One is my retirement present from Les and the other is My 95 year old C-96 that was never fired after proof testing. It's still gooped with grease on the inside and bore.

Most of my guns have ammo still available and I shoot them all!

I'm both. Maybe more. I have several rifles and shotguns that I hunt with. Good firearms, but nothing that couldn't be had with a trip to a store like academy. I have several handguns that I rely on for HD/SD. these are tools. I have a number of higher end long range rifles (Larues, a M24, etc.), AR's, several decent 1911's, and the guns I use for 3 gun. None of these are strangers to the range. And a few suppressors. Everything I mentioned is worth many thousands of dollars. This is not a gun collection. This is a collection of guns. What's the difference? My COLLECTION consists of US mil firearms. Garands, carbines, a P-17, 1903, 1903A3, a Krag, a trapdoor Springfield, a Colt 1911 and a Rem-Rand 1911A1. Both kinds of M1917 revolvers. There's also a few commercial 1911's I took a fancy to- like a near-mint gold cup, and unfired delta elite, and a very nice 1963 super 38. I guess the real difference for me are the guns that serve a specific task versus guns that have a historic significance or a higher value that I bought strictly for the prestige of owning them

Shooter.

However I'm not "all in" on shooter as I have several firearms that could and maybe 'should' have been ammunition or component purchases instead...but getting a new gun is nice just-because.

Definitely a shooter, that happened to accumulate 50+ guns.

To me a "collection" has a theme, and I'm pretty much "themeless".

I have a couple of rifles that are worth to much to shoot them. I don't have any use for a rifle I can't shoot as it defeats the purpose of it. But there is a little voice in my head that keeps saying I should hold onto them because they will be worth more money in the future. It's a moral conundrum
