Idid some research which said itwas 7.65x53 . but when i took it to cabelas some one said it could be one of 3 cal. maybe 308. does anybody know about these rifles?

I never heard of a real Argentine issue 1891 in anything but 7.65.

I guess one could be rebarrelled but the lower strength of the action and the protruding magazine work against a lot of modifications to the '91s.

The only caliber they were made in was 7.65x53mm Argentine.

You would have to be a fool to convert one to .308 Winchester as the action is not strong enough.

If it's in 7x57, it is not a 91 Argentine Mauser unless someone re-barreled it.

You might have a 93 Spanish Mauser, as that was the first Mauser produced in 7x57mm.

Or a 95 Chilean Mauser which was also 7x57mm.

Yep, that's what I was thinking.

Been a long time since I had a 91 though.

Thanks for the info!

I took the 1891 argentine mauser to the range today , with 7.65x53 ammo . it would not fire .I dont think it was the ammo. the rangmaster said it was either a broken firing pin or saftey. the store where I bought it is sending it to a gunsmith. spence
