I'm sorry to be such a pest everyone but I am having to relearn everything from scratch and all I could find on this subject related to accuracy.
Thoughts....
  • A great place to start your re-education would be to begin at the Starting Load.
  • Why the heck are you loading Max Load for plinking ? Nothing good ever happens at Max Load.
  • I agree with using the kinetic hammer to get back close to 1.135"

Blue86f100. That will prevent the seating die from doing any kind of a crimp? I've got the FCD next stage.

Yes, The problem with backing off too far, is it hampers the die the ability to support the sides of the bullet for alignment. The reason I only back off a 1/2 turn or less. The only thing I like about the FCD is that it does not care what your length is. Real easy to over do it. A little adjustment goes a long ways. For me they hurt accuracy on my rifle rounds. I played with one long enough to know if your doing all of the brass prep as you should, sizing and expanding as required for your setup, it's not needed. The reason I got rid of it and never bought another. Knock the post sizing die out of the pistol and it's ok for crimping. I think it's harder on brass since it's not completely 360 deg around, segmented.

I cleaned and reseated all the dies. I only set the seating die back one full turn to avoid the crimp this time Or is that something I don't have to worry about? I figured that crimping on the seating die then using the FCD would be redundant if not stressing the case even more. As for plinking at max loads the charge I'm using is right in the middle of the range out of the Speer 13. I'm having some problems now getting the Lee Auto Disk powder hopper to throw consistently so I'm rejecting a lot of loads. I understand Unique can be somewhat of a problem for the Lee Auto Disk so I'm going to switch over to a different powder.

Ok. I pulled everything apart again. Cleaned and reseated all the dies as per lee video instructions. A quick mod to the auto disk fixed that issue. Mixed head stamp brass. I am now still getting 1.122 to 1.135. I've been trying to do OAL to the Speer 13 manual. 1.135. I also checked the lee Modern Reloading and that says OAL 1.120. Alliant says CPRN with a AOL of 1.135. I'm running RMR FMJ RN and 5.6 gr Unique. They say 6 gr. Just how critical is this? I'm getting one source that isn't tied to a manufacturer that says 1.125 is fine. OEM says 1.135 for somewhat similar bullet. They chamber fine and seem to shoot fine. Everything else is tickety boo and good to go. Is that small a difference worth worrying about? Is over pressure going to be a problem? I'm hoping for a simple answer for a simple mind.

Captain Quack.

That is the best news I've had all day! Thank you PO2Hammer! It's a bit cool here still for a range day and now I can spend the day rolling up some boom booms of which I have almost none to shoot.
