I read the linked article...and good for the old boy!!
But, I see no mention of an AK-47. Was that just something the OP added to juice up his thread? If so, I hope the moderators close this one...

Please correct me if I'm wrong...

The 70+ year old man should have tried to subdue the 24 year old assailant by wrestling or calling the police rather than resorting to brutish violence like this. Just kidding. Kudos to the ole man.

WHIOTV is reporting that the robber used an "assault rifle," not that I'd trust them to recognize one.

The photo shows what looks like a WASR, also colloquially referred to as an AK47. It's not select fire, but it *is* in all other respects an AK-pattern rifle.

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - A quick thinking elderly man fights back while staring down the barrel of an assault rifle.

Police say 24-year-old Phillip Anderson was driving a Monte Carlo on Brooklyn Avenue just after 6 P.M. Saturday evening when he cut off another driver, a 72-year-old man. Police say Anderson then went out to confront the older man.

"The 24-year-old stepped out of his vehicle with an AK 47 Assault rifle and said, 'give me all you got'", Sergeant John Sullivan with Dayton Police said.

Officers say instead of money, Anderson got bullets.

Police say the 72-year-old man was a licensed CCW carrier and shot at Anderson twice, once in the abdomen and once in the left arm.

Officials say Anderson's injuries are not life threatening. When he's released from the hospital, officers say he'll face charges of aggravated robbery. The shooter will not face any charges.

I wish they'd mentioned the guy's name, I'd love to shake the guy's hand and treat him to whatever beverage he prefers. I'm tired of seeing people lay down to the little slugs we have in this town. A few years back, their game of choice was going downtown and finding elderly men and women and beating the hell out of them for giggles.

Maybe this incident will quell the rise of violence against older folks around here. I applaud the man's actions.

good for him!! especially since he was staring down the business end of an AK style rifle thats not a fun place to be

A 24-year-old man who allegedly got out of his car and tried to rob an elderly man at gunpoint was shot by the would-be victim, who was licensed to carry a concealed weapon and fired to defend himself, police said.
I get those warm fuzzies every time I read articles like this.

I always love it when the young and dumb get schooled by the old and wise:D

You know the older I get the less <&@% I'm willing to put up with. If I live to 70 I'll probably be that ornery to. :D

Good on the old fart. Don't put with any stuff from those punks!

Now lets see if the wire services pick this story up and it get printed in major mainstream newspapers on the front page, and mentioned on TV stations outside of the Ohio area.

Sure....

Charges approved against wounded suspect

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Charges have been approved against a man who was shot while trying to rob an elderly man.

Police tell 2News that 24 year-old Philip Anderson is charged with aggravated robbery.

Sunday night Anderson was still under armed guard at Miami Valley Hospital in stable condition.

The incident happened Saturday on Brooklyn Avenue in Dayton. That's when Anderson pulled an assault rifle on a 72- year old man and tried to rob him.

The victim quickly pulled his own gun and fired off five shots, hitting Anderson twice. Once in the arm and once in the stomach.

This 72 year old guy didn't adhere to that foolishness about being "too old" or "outgunned".
I always tell new shooters that it's preparation and mindset that matter most.

Stupid punks like picking on old men but I tell ya,that is a bad move. Old guys are seasoned and don't take ****. Good job for the old man!
