Mossberg 835 Ultramag under the bed. 4 rounds of 3' 00 buck in the tube, empty chamber. I unload in the morning and reload at night.

I figure just racking the slide should scare any sane intruder back out the direction they came
It definitely should. Shotgun cocking is quite possibly the most intimidating sound in the world.

As for me, I don't have a gun yet (getting one soon, though!) so I'm loving the ideas in this thread :)

If I hear a shotgun rack while walking into MY OWN HOME, I will call from down the street to let my wife know it is me!

If she says "I know!" :what:

Whatever I carried that day goes to bed with me. Next to the bed is a Mossberg 500 with 20" barrel loaded with oo buck.

Use to keep my sigma at my bedside. Not anymore though, it's now broken. Now I keep the Mossberg 500 loaded with 00 buck at my bedside when I sleep. Check out the s&w sigma sw9c thread please. I need some help with that.

Beretta 92FS with 15+1 rds of 124 gr +P Golden Saber.

Maglite, cellphone and spare 15 rd. magazine.

(No kids.)

Only adults in my home, so I have: Beretta Px-4 (17 + 1, safety off) in a drawer on one side of the bed, S&W Sigma 9VE in a drawer on the other, both loaded w/Federal 124gr HST. Flashlight & cell phone in an open headboard cubby in the middle. One dog in bed w/me & my GF, one just outside the bedroom door.

my sig with a loaded mag (unsecured), round not in the chamber, and my cell phone. i figure my dog will give me enough warning to grab it and rack the slide.

.45 acp in nightstand, either a SA 1911 or pt145 depending on weather and what I carried that day. Behind the door Betsy my Mossy 500 w/ 00.

It definitely should. Shotgun cocking is quite possibly the most intimidating sound in the world.

It is, don't get me wrong. However, you are also giving away your location at that moment so you better be ready at that point to confront.

I know this is the semi auto forum..but I thought it was a cool thread &wanted to respond. I keep my Highway patrolman 357 mag on my night stand, loaded with 125 grain JHP ammo made by Corbon, no children in my house. Some times, I keep my Taurus Tracker 44 mag next to me instead, loaded with 200 grain 44 special winchester silver tip ammo (deep hollow points) I feel that either hand gun with those loads would be effective, and I'm a fairly accurate shot with both.

12ga & .45 within reach, ready to rock (no one but the cat to worry about, and he's plenty curious but not very dextrous).

The ACP and the plinker carbine/pistol combo are getting a workout later today . . .

No kids in the house, so, an HK USP Tactical .45 with flash suppressor, Pelican M6 LED flashlight, cell phone, watch and wallet.

I have 13 and 10 year old daughters. Both shooters. I have either a .357 revolver, or my S&W 410S in condition 1 in my drawer. When I leave for work, I secure weapons and firearms.

Also have flashlite and phone next to bed.

glock 19 with remington golden sabre's 124 + p jhp in the night stand drawer
bersa 380 with golden sabre 102 jhp next to me on the floor in outside pocket of work bag
maverick 88 12ga with 00 buckshot right by the bed
and a ninja sword by the bedpost just in case I run out of ammo

Sigma 9ve with 2 16 round mags loaded with Speer Gold dots +P's, a Rossi snubbie .38 also with gold dots with two speed loaders, a Jack Russell Terror under the covers.

And to those that say racking a shotgun slide gives away your position: are you trying to sneak up on enemy lines? The bad guy knows you're in your bedroom, unless you sleep in the kitchen:rolleyes:

Glock 19 in nightstand drawer, 124gr +P Gold Dots with one chambered, Surefire light, cell phone.

FN P-9 with Insight X2 laser/light combo, locked in a small drawer locker.
