Attempted Carjacker in Memphis gets surprised

I go to Memphis at least twice a month on business and lived there for 14 years through the 80's and mid 90's.
In the city limits it's becoming (is) a society unhinged. Memphis was the cause of me getting my CCW initially and nowadays I pretty much stay on guard at all times when going there.

Used to tell folks: well, it's bad but you should see New Orleans or Detroit. That's no longer valid. The place is out of control and getting worse. The cops don't care and city government is a dysfunctional morass.

My carry rig for Memphis now is a CZ 75 PCR with a spare mag and a 642 in an ankle holster with a speed strip in the back pocket. Feels like I'm rigging for combat whenever I have to go there. How low can we go . . .

Take advantage of the cover available (metal,plastic/obstruction, gas pump beats fabric hands-down, every time). This gentleman could back me any day . . . glad he's ok and he gets the "Don't Tread on Me" award in my book. Atta-boy . . . only regret is that he missed & didn't successfully remove the contaminated donor from the gene pool.

How low can we go

You're prudent . . . change that to read "How can I best ensure my well-being given the circumstances." Carry on . . .

I would pay money to see that.

I AM REALLY FRUSTRATED!!!

In a time when our freedoms are so important and cherished, we make ourselves look like sickos. DO WE REALLY WANT TO MANUFACTURE AMMUNITION FOR THE ANTIS AND THEN GIVE IT TO THEM SO THEY CAN SHOOT US WITH IT??? COME ON PEOPLE!

I think you need to try de-caf. If some thug sticks a shotgun in my face I think it's perfectly acceptable to hose him down with gasoline.

Lighten up Francis.

If thats all you have on hand, yes, of course. But you have a pistol in your hand.

And then there are folks here who would pay money to see people on fire:barf::barf:
We should really clean up our behavior so that we would look repectable when we head out the front door and meet our friends, peers, and critics. If we are not presentable ourselves, how can we expect to fight the freedom-haters and defeat them, and rally countless other people to our cause?

I see the gas hose as a solid tactical defense. Why all the namby pambys? Lots of people teach to distract the BG such as throwing wallets down, keys, etc.

Let's see, hose in one hand, gun probably still in pocket. First reaction, start moving, spray and pray with gas, get cover, draw weapon, fire.

I agree, too any people wound too tight here. No telling what you'd do in that situation.

I understand your reasoning, but I think some people here finds it a real hoot to light folks on fire and then get enjoyment from that. It is THAT mentality that I am really angered by. The gasoline as a distraction thing, I am completely for it, it's just that sicko mentality I want to correct.

Rachen

In a phrase . . . threaten me with bodily harm and all aspects of humanity, compassion, and rational thought that I have ever been taught, have assimilated, or thought right & proper are OFF! I have survived for 60 years, several of those years long ago in dire do-or-die circumstances, and some not-so-long-ago and I'm still here. When you have been so fortunate as to have survived adverse, life-or-death, me-or-you situations after 60 years versus 21, feel free to correct or criticize those of us who have endured & escaped said confrontations and are still able to share those experiences and survival philosophies with the next generation.

I never said anything negative about using whatever tactics it is necessary to survive. It's just some folks here find a burning person entertaining.

Survival and defense is one thing. Getting entertained by morbid events is a whole different thing.

It's just the mentality of certain folks I was trying to correct.

And I can appreciate that . . . while I wouldn't "pay money to watch," I'd not lose a moments sleep over a scumbag who met such a fate, either. You reap what you sow . . .

Absolutely right. I completely agree.

My previous posts sounded like rants just becuase I am trying to make all of us presentable when we go head to head with the freedom-haters. After all, the freedom haters are very sly and cunning, and a simple mis-stated sentence will be used as ammunition against us.

Who said anything about setting someone on fire? What went through my mind when he said "spray him down" was just a guy spraying a "gangsta" thug down with gasoline, which I would have found hilarious.

"Yo, G, what the **** happened to yo' a$$? Yo' a$$ is cuvvud in gas!"
"Man, I was all gettin' ready to steal some old cracka's car at the Texuhcoh, when that b**** sprayed me with his hose! Then that cracka pops out a piece and starts shootin' at me!"
*snickering and laughing in the background*
"Man, I dunno what yo' foo''s laughin' at!"

I mean, not only are you wet, you stink. I find it very humorous, and I do not find people on fire hilarious, unless that person has yellow skin and four fingers.

It's a reference to The Simpsons.
Homer on fire running around like a nut is hilarious.

LOL! I thought you were talking about these professional stuntmen wearing those huge yellow protective suits and mittens, and set themselves on fire to make a living.

*guffaws*
Wow. I didn't even think of that.

Well, looks like the rest of us won't be able to use the old, "Keys are in the gas cap," trick to distract the BG anymore. Thumbs up to the gentleman who had the wit and stones to say something like that and follow up.

Rachen, you really need to lighten up. You are concerned that a comment about hosing a shotgun armed carjacker with gasoline might "give the antis ammo?"

Give me a break. Ever hear of the carjacking in Knoxville TN in 2007 that is now called "The Knoxville Horror? Google it.

If anybody points a weapon at me, my family, friends or innocent bystanders, I will use any weapon available to the best of my ability to neutralize that threat asap. It might be a 125 grain hollowpoint, or 17 of them. It might be a knife, a rope or wire, a club, an improvised spear, a brick, a pair of scissors, or my bare hands. It would CERTAINLY include a dousing with gasoline, if a gas pump was in my hand or near to it.

Once a bad guy aims a gun at a good guy, all concepts of niceness go out the window.

Get back to us about niceness to carjackers, after you real all about the Knoxville Horror.

And anyway, how is dousing a bad guy with gasoline any meaner than blasting him with a dozen hollowpoints, from his cranium to his crotch?

Why do all of the stories on the Knoxville Horror that I've found have a decidedly white supremacist lean to them?

People in Florida are too stupid to use those kinds of nozzles. Most stations down here have disabled that feature, so you have to hold the nozzle the whole time.

Sad, but true. This might help--

I'm glad the good guy won this time!

I thought I clarified this already. Like I said before, I have absolutely no problem with using any method of defense against an assailant. After all, I have practiced Wushu for over 10 years and have learned some really, really dirty tactics, if you know what I mean. Just ask my Grand Uncle, who was a veteran of the Anti Japanese War. He had seen more nastiness during that dirty war than anybody else, and the 8th Route Army had no choice but to use the same dirty tricks against the Japanese imperialists to defeat them.

I was just chastising some fellows for childish comments. It is the childish comments I was trying to correct, not the using gasoline as defense part.

i was actually referencing a post made about a month ago about a woman(in her 60s) who used a gas pump to defeat a mugger.

If i were at the gas pump i would use gasoline first. This would work to blind the BG and then some. I know if i had a shotgun on someone and they soaked me in gasoline i would rethink. i would find that frightening. nobody wants to burn to death. If that doesn't stop him then a 158 grain projectile or heavier would do fine....and the consequences of what ever muzzle flash...so be it. Nothing funny about it.
