Sad news story with a better ending.

Very tragic for the woman. Glad some men had the guts to step in and try and help her.
I am watching the news lines here in Atlanta to see if the executioner will be charged.

Woman, alleged carjacker killed near Acworth
Truck hits vehicle; witness shoots fleeing gunman

Published on: 09/12/05
An apparent carjacking victim was killed Monday morning in north Cobb County when her sport utility vehicle was broadsided by a cement truck. The suspected carjacker was then shot to death by a bystander when he tried to run from the wreck scene.
About 9:30 a.m., a motorist northbound on Cobb Parkway noticed a white Toyota SUV pulled over to the side of the southbound lanes just south of the Lake Allatoona bridge, said Cobb police Cpl. Dana Pierce.
A man was beating a woman outside the SUV, and the northbound motorist stopped his vehicle and started across the four-lane roadway to help the woman, said Pierce.
The suspect then pushed the woman back into the SUV and took off, with the doors to the SUV still open. A short distance later, the suspect tried to turn left onto Lake Acworth Drive, and a northbound cement mixer struck the SUV in the passenger's side, killing the woman, Pierce said.
Pierce said the suspect exited the SUV and was running toward a nearby gas station when he was shot and killed in the middle of the roadway by a man who had gotten out of a southbound Dodge pickup truck.
Acworth police spokesman Wayne Dennard said his department is investigating the possibility that the man killed Monday morning was the suspect in a Tuesday rape allegedly committed by a Hurricane Katrina evacuee.
"He does meet the general description," Dennard said.
Dennard said the victim of Tuesday's rape told investigators that her attacker "said he was from Louisiana and his family was dead and he had nothing to lose."

I pass that intersection on the way home everyday. This guy has been around for a week or more and has raped 3 women in Acworth but they don't tell you that on the news. I found that out from Acworth police. The only news story was last night telling how he had broken in a womans house last tue. beat and raped her stole her gun and forced her to the ATM where she got away she said he was a Katrina victim and said he had nothing to loose anyway .I hope they don't prosecute the guy who shot him.

FEMA, importing violent sex offenders directly to your neighborhood!

the DFW area has enough rats in it.

So does Cleveland...we are supposed to get our "shipment" of refugees sometime on Tuesday. Gues I'll stay away from the "Cleveland Downtown Convention Center" for a while, till I see what sort of rats were imported.

To those that are truly good guys, but refugees, my apologies for calling you 'rats'. But so far, most of the refugees seem to fit the 'rodent profile'.

.....

I am working with (many dollars and hours given) many that lost everything but maybe a car they escaped in, or the few things they got out with in the Atlanta area. Only rodent I saw so far was the one I posted the article on. And I am sure there are more criminals in the crowd, just as there are in any crowd, on any side of town. The vast, vast majority are good and regular people that also were mostly poor. That does not make you are rat. I hope people (that as close as they dare get is a TV screen) will remember a few things like.... it could have been you, you had nothing to do with what parents you were born too.... You had nothing to do with what color you were born.... You had nothing to do with what neighborhood / environment you were raised in.... All your blessings are a gift from God and if you do not know that today, you will for sure some day.

I almost did not post this because I knew it would bring out the worst comments from the more righteous in our society.

Thank you for posting it anyway, Gilroy. A voice of reason comes in handy sometimes.

Thats a damn shame for the lady, good job to the guy who intervened. Hope he doesn't get charged, at least give him some recognition..

Boy, that article was horribly written. I had to read it twice to understand fully what was going on.

I saw that on the news this noon. The Cobb PD spoksman said that: 'the bystander approched the carjacker, who was armed. Carjacker raised his weapon where upon the bystander, who was also armed, shot and killed the carjacker.'

GOOD SHOOT!

BTW, in GA, it is legal to shoot a carjacker if you're the one being carjacked. I also think that the worst that will happen to the bystander (samaritan) is silence from CPD or any other authority.

How unfortunate to see that the woman who was killed wasn't armed and had been the one to fire the fatal shots.

Glad to see another scumbag cooling off in the morgue though. :)

6:00 News says no charges filed they had an eye witness interview who said she saw the man get out of the wreck and turn and point a gun on the guy who tryed to stop him ,the guy fired 3 shots and bad guy fell to his knees dead. I say give him the key to the city! There is a whole bunch of the NO scum here in Cobb county now. I guess it will take a few more incidents to happen before they send them all back

Here we go again, another defensive use of a handgun...where the shooter is justified and likely prevented further loss of life.

The local media portrays the event fairly, even quoting bystanders who attribute saving life to the armed citizen...and the national media fails to cover it!

I can't find mention of this on foxnews.com or cnn.com.

Same thing happened with the WalMart shooting in Albuquerque a few weeks ago...local media portrayed an armed hero intervening and saving life...national media said, 'one stabbed, one shot in walmart'.

Grrrr...media!

I was wondering what kind of legal problems the justified shooter will encounter as a result of this action. It seems that someone will bring charges, like family or DA.... The article did not fully develop that part of the story. It would be too bad if he has to spend a ton of money to legally defend his lawful actions.

Boy, you always wonder if you could carry and the situation happened to you. Could you? Would you? :uhoh:

Could you? Would you?
Without hesitation.

It's probably too early for all that.

I'd like to buy the guy a beer or dinner though.

Yep, Neon, Yep.... Wait and see

I guess I just figure mindset is everything.

I visualize myself acting out my training. Fight, Assess, Scan, Tac load. The shooter in this story had it easy (relatively speaking) in that he himself was not presently a direct target of the attacker at the time that he witnessed/assessed the situation and made the decision to draw and engage. The story made it sound like he had ample time to think.

I'd like to think that my training would take over and that I would perform to the highest level of skill that I have a mastery of...which is high enough to put rounds on the target.

I guess we'll see.

Holy #$&*! That's only a few miles from me.

Just to put this in perspective: Acworth is what most would call a "small town." Old, quaint in spots, they even have a picturesque "main street." Beyond that, it's a grim industrial stretch of trailer-parks and low-income housing. Poverty abounds, and meth labs are everywhere. Like many towns down here, they have a nice, touristy section that the city council hopes will hide the ugly reality, which is that this isn't a safe place to be out at night.

This sort of stuff is getting ALOT more common down here lately, and the only thing that surprises me about this is that the assailant was black. Usually it's either the hispanic gang-types or the redneck meth-waifs. Even the "nice" soccer-mom areas aren't safe anymore.

As far as the Mr. Roberts' actions, it's likely the most trouble he'll encounter is being deprived of his gun while it's used as evidence. That's what I love about Georgia--victims have rights here.

Fun little side-note, people are using the "I'm a refugee from New Orleans" line so much here, I'd have to extrapolate the pre-Katrina population of NOLA to be about 25 million...
