I just received a call the other day about payment issues from Utah and got that squared away to begin the back ground check. At the end of the conversation the Lady told me I would not get my permit for another 6 months!!!

Legislation has forced the Utah office to cater to the residents first (I'll have to agree with that) and to put off all nonresident applications!!!!!!!!!

If you're thinking of getting the Utah permit I wouldn't bother for a while. I wish I would have stuck with my home state which I will probably do as well.

well, i can't say i really blame UT. they really should give residents priority.

having said that ... they should also re-think staffing the CCW processors, as well as perhaps using some of the license fees, which go into the general fund, for CCW processing hires.

i just sent mine (NR) in 2 months ago. hope i can get mine before six months.

I believe that we just passed legislation that does earmark the CCW fees for use in that dept/agency. I think that the "resident permits first" was a different part of the same bill.

Correia could tell us for sure, but he's out of state at a match right now.

Another note on mine. I sent it in on April 26th. They didn't open it until May 30th. Good luck but I think yours will be set asside.

I don't blame Utah one bit either....just providing a FYI.

Glad I already have mine. Good luck to everyone that is requesting permits. Hang in there. It's worth the wait.

Ben, I don't leave for the Ironman until tomorrow.

But I don't know the answer. Sorry.

I wonder what the average ratio of resident to non-resident applicants are for a one month period. I would think that non would be much higher.

This year, I doubt it.

Right after Trolley Square, it went nuts. I've taught over 100 people a month locally since then. And I'm just one instructor.

Yep, and I know one of the guys that pushed it through. While I understand the plight of nonresidents wanting their permits, I know several Utah residents who have been waiting over 3 months for theirs.

Good news, though: the same piece of legislation approved more funding to hire more employees JUST for CFP processing.

They were so backlogged when I applied for my resident permit that it took me over 90 days instead of the 60 as specified by law.

However, on my list of things to complain about, that my state is so backlogged in issuing carry permits that the wait time is increased is pretty far down the line. :D

If you are curious how long it takes to receive Utahs concealed firearms permit

This website tells you what date Utah is processing for their concealed firearms permit, for both residents and non-residents http://bci.utah.gov/

This is for how long it takes once they receive the application. I am not sure how long it takes to receive the permit once the application is processed.

I have to agree, UT's backlog is a good thing. The more CCW holders we have the harder it gets for some politico to try to outlaw it.

I have to disagree - the sooner you apply, the sooner you'll get it. As a CA resident, this permit is my gateway to America. Even if I got a CA permit, it would be worthless in the USA as few, if any, states recognize it. The more people who have this permit the better, in my book.

The fact that there is a longer wait tells me I should get my app in sooner rather than later. I dont turn 21 for another 29days but almost tempted to find myself a class and get the app in soon even if its pre-birthday knowing that it will just sit in an "In box" until well after my b-day.
