My latest best effort is only a 105 out of the 4 targets I shot. Not good enough for first on the sporting unmagnified so I won't bother posting a picture.

However this match taught me a extremely important lesson. Even though I was using a red dot on my M&P15-22 I actually find I shoot better with nose to charging handle style and still looking through the sights.

Outstanding match choice forcing us to use all the positions.

Can't wait until next months match.

Eh, no harm posting it anyway. That is still a very respectable score.

Glad to hear it; I think we can all learn something from mixing it up from time to time. xyxthumbs.gif

I've been shooting scores in the 70's using sling only, without a rest
I didn't hit a single 10 on my last effort. :uhoh:
My 4's and 5's don't add up very well, but it's been great practice!

With the heavy barrel and the heavy stock and the heavy scope I just can't hold it steady
I know what you mean. This old crowbar I've been shooting with weighs about 15 pounds with the scope.
Being a single shot, my problem was trying to get 5 shots off in the alotted time.
Just couln't get it done fast enough using sticks, so I just shot offhand.

Just for laughs, heres one of my targets, (67). :barf: :D
Not the best score I shot, but none of them were very impressive.
I shot 3 standing (offhand) and the last one prone (sling only, no rest).
Couldn't seem to get onto that 400M target fast enough,
so I only got 3 shot's on that one before time ran out.

Never thought that the time restriction would pose a problem, but honestly I didn't think about folks using a heavy single shot boltie either. To keep it fair I think we may omit that next time around.

:)

Well, I didn't manage to beat the leader, not that it would have mattered because I failed to follow the time limit, so I would have been DQ'd anyways. I figured I'd toss my best target up just for fun though. Looks like a 139 to me.

This match was a lot of fun. 99% of my rimfire shooting is done either off the bench or unsupported offhand for silhouette, so trying 4-position was interesting. It took me a while to figure it out, I even tried shooting my silhouette gun instead but that didn't end well. I ended up shooting the seated target from kneeling because I could use the bench that way. Standing I shot by bracing my support hand against the posts that hold the roof up. Prone was shot off a bipod. We have some very good 3 and 4 position shooters at the club who were giving me a couple of pointers, but after trying this I have to say I'm even more impressed by their abilities than I was before. Thanks again Mav for finding a new challenge.

Great shooting, Jon!

As per usual (this month anyway), I had a busy day today and was unable to make it to the range other than to test fire a friend's rifle I did a bit of smithing on (probably should have shot it for the match ;)). Anyway, I do appreciate all the support and participation from you folks.

:)
