Spring Rimfire Match:

Thanks, Jeff. I'm not going to give up on it, only about 100rnds through it so far, not enough to do anything more than test the reliability. I still have other types of ammo to shoot, and plenty more testing to complete before I make any real determination.

:)

i seem to be having problems printing a shootable size 100trd target unless the whole thing is only 3or4in wide, the fifty yard doesnt even fit completly on the page but i think thats right because the outer edge doesnt count anyway but anything helps thanks

Here's a Magnified Unlimited 100 yd entry that I score as a 46. It's from a Savage 93 .22 WMR with a Mueller APV 4.5-14x40 AO scope. (I really like this scope so far). Sandbags on a bench. Ammo was CCI Maxi Mag .22 WMR HP 40gr. Fairly new rifle, and I think things are improving. Probably mostly me getting to know it. It also does pretty well with the Hornady 30 grain. Glad to be back in the game. :D P51D

Glad to have you back P51D!...and some good shooting too.

HUNTNMT29, any luck printing the 100yd target?

:)

no luck yet but its not a big deal i was just gonna take it out for fun anyways i have a .22lr with a little 3 power scope that i thought i give it a shot. but i have a open sight that i just sighted in at 50 yrds that i wanna try and get a entry in

Still one more day guys!

On a good note, I did manage to get the new 93R17-TR dialed in and have determined that it greatly prefers the 20gr. HP/OTM bullets over the 17gr. BTs & FMJs (which didn't do well at all). I am hoping that someone comes along and bests my score as I am starting to feel that I had an unfair advantage using the .17HMR at long [by rimfire standards] range. I have always enjoyed stretching it out a bit (even years before buying a .17HM2, and in the period between selling the HM2 and before the current .17HMR), but I don't want to alienate those that haven't a rimfire that shoots quite as flat (and don't particularly want to disqualify those that have such rimfires either). I am starting to think it might be best to stick with the standard 25/50yd match (and 25yds for both in the coldest months) to keep things fair...what say ye fellow rifleman (no matter what I plan to stick with 25/50 for most months)?

The following is a photo of my best showing (54), and the new rifle.

Thank you, Jeff. They do when you feed 'em right. This one was grouping about quadruple the group shown with the 17gr. fodder, downright awful. I tried Fed., Hornady, Win., even CCI...all of it performed poorly. Pop in a 20gr. HP (the group pictured was Win. Supreme Game Point) and you get three in a single hole, one pushed over to the left, and one over-compensated for (that would have likely been a great deal closer if I didn't). Still can't believe that the first three did that, but I have to say that I am kind of glad that the fourth one didn't go in the same hole...as no one would believe that I threw all of 'em in one hole.

:)

Excellent Mav!
Glad you got that long range tack remover dialed in.

I had to try this target again, went to the range on saturday.
I shot this 54 with RWS R-50.
I wasn't going to post it unless someone else shot a 54 or 55.

BTW Regarding the longer range shooting.
It doesn't matter to me, whatever is good for everyone else.
(The range I usually shoot at is only 190 yds, so I won't be participating in 200yd shoots.)
I think I might try shooting prone, since I need the practice.

Shot with the same old Crowbar,
63 Ans. 54, 15X
100yds, very little wind

Awesome, makes me feel a little better about my fortune with the new .17HMR.

Not being a masochist, I don't believe that will be a problem. ;) Unless there is some great outpouring of folks wanting to shoot beyond 100yds. (which I don't foresee), I think that'll be the limit.

For what it's worth, I really like shooting prone with a bipod and don't feel that it negatively impacts my performance by any significant degree. I seldom shoot from a bench anymore, as I find it to be a bit impractical (and burdesome to lug in and out of the truck; a shooting mat being far easier/lighter and can live behind the seat)...generally either standing, kneeling (with or without shooting sticks), or prone for me.

:)

Jeff, it is too early to tell anything concrete, but mine seems to be consistently awful with 17gr. ammo, and consistently pretty darn good with the 20gr. Win. Supreme...next stop is the Hornady XTP. It should be good stuff as it is similar to the Winny ammo (perhaps even the same stuff) and my buddy's rifle prefers that ammo, I just haven't gotten to trying it myself.

Concerning next month's match: are their any recommendations for a target or two (note that this one will be a return to the standard 25/50yd. range)? Also a revised leaderboard is upcoming (the final scoreboard & new match will be added tomorrow as early as is practicable to allow for any late W. Coast submissions).

:)

Just hope you don't need to spend $200 a brick for the ammo it likes.
I doubt it, I imagine it will do just fine on the XTP, which may not be the cheapest, but is a great deal less costly and easier to find than the Winchester Supreme (which I happened to pick up on sale).

I'm glad to see the contest go back to the regular distance just because I have problems getting to the gun range very often and I can't make it to the farm that often either. I can walk out my front door and shoot 50 yards. Heck I can open my front door and shoot 50 yards.
Happy to oblige. I am pretty much in the same boat as you regarding a 50yd. range. I have my side/rear yard set up for 25/50yd shooting, but am unable to stretch out to 100 without going to my range (which is still on the property, and is currently set up for accommodating up to [and perhaps beyond] 400yds, so I have absolutely no right to complain).

As promised, the Leaderboard Mk. IV:
