Welcome to the April Rimfire Match! The match is open to any and every 22 caliber (as well as 17 and 20 caliber) rimfire rifle including the perennial favorite .22LR, as well as the .22Short, .22Long, .22 Mag., .17HM2, .17HMR, and 5mm Rem RF Mag (as well as any oddball rimfires that you might have). This match is meant to be challenging and educational, but most of all FUN. Hopefully it will get you out to the range and shooting your rifle. If you have one handy, make sure an bring a friend too.

There are Two Optics Divisions:
->Iron sights and non-magnified optics and red dots. Shot at 25yds.
->Scopes and other magnified sighting devices. Shot at 50yds.

There are Two Rifle Classes:
->Unlimited/Target Rifles (highly modified rifles, rests, target sights, high magnification optics- over 10x [in the appropriate division] may be used)
->Sporting Rifles (Includes All Non-Target Class Autoloaders, Bolt Actions, Single Shots, Pumps, & Lever Rifles)

Target Class can be shot from any position, Sporting Class is shot from any position without a rest or sandbags. Use of a sling is encouraged for both divisions.

50 Yd. (Optics) Target: See attachment 1 (12 Lollipops). - Scale to 100% on standard 8.5x11in. paper. The objective is to blow up the lollipops...to do so you have to hit the candy. Fire one shot at each lollipop. Scored as three points per direct hit (must be completely within the "candy"), two for nicking the "candy", and one for getting lucky and hitting the stick (but this cannot be the neighboring stick). Maximum score of 36pts.

25 Yd. (Irons) Target: See attachment 2 (3 Lollipops). - Scale to 100% on standard 8.5x11in. paper. Just like the other target, the objective is to blow up the lollipops. Fire five shots at each lollipop. Scored as indicated...10pts for breaking the center bulls, 5 for the second ring, and less one point for each additional ring (breaking the line is sufficient for award of points for each). No points are awarded for hitting the stick. Maximum possible score of a whopping 150 points.

When you are satisfied you've done your best post/attach (or shoot me a PM) a photo or scan of your target with the following information: Forum name or name you want posted in the results, Rifle, make, model, vintage (if known), Sights/Optics (with magnification if applicable), Ammo, Position, Distance, Conditions (in/outdoors, wind, temperature...). Multiple submissions are allowed (in same or different division/class with same or different rifles).

Self-scoring is encouraged and appreciated. All submissions due before April 31st. :uhoh:

I'm going to try the 25 yard iron target this weekend. A Kimber 82G from the CMP would be an unlimted/target class? Does it matter if it's shot from a sling rather than a rest?

The use of a sling is fine (and encouraged) for sporting class (barring something else that would exclude you from the class). In your case the rifle should come equipped with target aperture sights, which would put you in the target class. BTW, that is a fine rifle.

:)

I'll laugh everytime seeing "Sticky Sucker Rimfire Match" once this gets stuck at the top :)

Yay now I have another reason to go visit my Father In Law. Am I allowed to enter multiple categories? I'll have access to a non magnified, and a magnified sporting.

Welcome to the match guys.

neededausername, you absolutely can enter in multiple divisions and/or classes, and can do so with different rifles (or the same ones if applicable), and if you better your score, multiple submissions (for the same category) are also permitted. Additionally you can willingly jump into target class with a sporting rifle if you would like to use a bipod or rest (or if you just feel that the sporting class isn't enough of a challenge). There are no penalties for using a sling in any division or class.

:)

Sweet! I'm in! Might even try it later today, 25-yards, irons, target/unlimited class. One more time to try out the Winchester 52 I've been borrowing all winter.

Perfect targets for the April match Mav. No time to head out today and big thunderboomers predicted for tomorrow so may have to shoot this one indoors to start out.

Definitely get some outdoor time sometime during the month tho.

Are any aperature sights target sights, or do you need the target front sights as well?

Reason I ask is because I am thinking about putting a Williams adjustable peep sight on my Marlin 60 with a Firesight up front.

BTW: thanks for a seperate target for irons! I tried last months with my Romanian M69 trainer and really couldn't see the smaller holes!

Thanks, Jim. Don't get blown away. ;)

BluEyes i'd go by the rear sight, and classify most, but not all, aperture style sights as a target sight.

:)

My two attempts.

Magnified Target class as a shot off a rest.
Marlin 60, 9x scope, 36gr Federal Champion

1st, Hard to tell, either a 33 or a 35, looks like little orange nicked the edge.
2nd, also hard to tell, either 33, 34, or 35. Little green might not be all the way in, and little blue might not have hit, or might have nicked. Doesn't matter though, even if both are scored 35, I guarantee there will be loads of 36's in a matter of days!

Magnified sporting shot without the rest scored a weak 15.

I ran out of color ink, so the target is in black and white. Anyways, here is from my Kimber 82G with stock iron sights. It was windy out today but the biggest issue was that it was gusting, wind would pulse from about 5-7mph up to 20mph every few seconds. It was one of those run and gun type things when the wind died out.

One shot in the second target looks out, and happened when I got caught by the wind. The one shot in the third bull is also questionable. I'm not sure if it is in or out to be honest. When I put the shot target over a clean target, it appears it nicks the edge of the 10, but if I have to score myself I will give it a 5. Still, I'll take a 140 in the conditions I had today.

I think you have the 3rd one, but that makes it a 145 (note that there is a 5pt differential between the bulls and the second ring). Still very good shooting, benzy2!

:)

Alright, my first venture here, and not so good.

Alibi's:
7-14mph winds.
First 15 shots I've put through this rifle in 8 years
I stink

Bad news is I scored a measly 29pts (as I score it). The good news is once I got the hang of it, the rifle actually groups good! I'll have to give the lollipops another try.

Eh, I wouldn't sweat it; that is somewhat to be expected from a rifle that fires from an open bolt (besides, I've seen what you can do with an AR-10...so it ain't all you). Also you might just need to find the right ammo for the rifle...which could yield significantly better groups.

:)

Welcome to the forum and rimfire match, mossboss59. I have a little experience with some of the early Savage bolt rifles, but I don't recall the precise model no., but I can say with confidence that they tend to be good, accurate rifles if well cared for.

:)

The rain let up this evening, and there was practically no wind,
so I headed for the range.
The weather hasn't been very cooperative.
Had 8" of snow friday, and only about half of it has melted,
but the shooting platform at the range has a roof.

This looks like a 34.
I hit the edge of the small yellow and orange lollipops.
The other target I shot, got too wet and the ink ran,
but it was worse than this one anyway.

Hope to try again later this month!

Lyman 15x super targetspot,
