Sounds like your overall disposition with this fellow is not overly hostile per say.

Just remind the agent of a few things:

1) he has to bring his own ammo if he wants to play with your collection
2) anything of yours he shoots, he cleans to YOUR satisfaction
3) If he intends to inspect your collection, he needs to bring paper targets and possibly beer or steaks for the grill

Defuse with humor.
Sounds absolutely reasonable to me :D

I think if you bought 30+ GLock 19s or 17s that would send a red flag up to anybody.

I would say that's true. And I might even say that a "red flag" would be justified. At the very least, you would think somebody was "going into the gun business" who didn't have an FFL 01. Even if they were being careful to only sell to legal buyers, that's iffy behavior and you should expect to hear from somebody.

Game Warden tears me apart over legal multiple fishing pole purchases

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You know, I told this story over on another board, …sad to say, more than a few said I was a liar, however its 100% true.

1st, I live in the Kentucky, an EXTREMELY pro-fishing state. (I wont say which city)

2nd, I have relatives who are police, and have (relatively) great respect for game wardens.

3rd, I have NO criminal history, none, ….period….and I have worked in a few pro shops

2 years ago I ran into some serious extra $$$$, I bought a lot of multiple fishing poles ,….of course I know if you buy more than 1 fishing pole a week, the dealer has to fill out a MULTIPLE FORM on you and mail it out to the Department of Game and Fisheries……….

A call from the DGF at the end of the year….”we want you to come to our office….little talk”………….. I said no…..

“well, what the heck are you doing with buying 30+ fishing poles last year.????”

Me::: “well, im a fishing fanatic….come on over and you can peek in the safe and see them” (by the way, I know this ATF agent, ive met him year or so ago on something irrelevant to anything wrong I ever did).

Agent::”well, its not going to raise in value, theyre only fishing poles, why the hell do you need so many????”

…….back and forth for about 20 mins……..thankfully I knew a lot of police officers he could use as a reference on me……which he did , I assume…..

…….OF COURSE……the beef is……you could buy 1 fishing pole a week, every week for a year…….but when youre out buying multiple fishing poles at a time…..several times……

as the DGF warden told me, end of the year, a computer kicks back a “multiples list” of all the local yokels who are buying “too many damn fishing poles”……….

Seems I was #1 in this city….which is the largest one in the state…………..

Now….i KNOW WELL , that 2 of my rich friends buy WAY MORE fishing poles per year than myself from dealers…but NOT multiple poles within one week.

The other nonsense of this list is, I could have bought 2000 AK-47s last year, but that would NEVER register…….why? theyre not fishing poles……. Isn’t that great……

***I left out about 30 mins of conversation between him and me, of him chewing on me as to why the heck I have a safe full of tackle, many fishing poles…….

This “multiples list” is just nonsense, if I was anyway inclined to do something illegal, such as multiple straw purchases……id just shop each pro shop, 1 pole from each shop…. Per week……or any one of a number of things……..the only info that list is kicking back info on, are legal gun purchases, not illegal straw-purchases from people smart enough to know how to very easily avoid their name showing up on such a list.

****By the way, ive spoken to this DGF Warden somewhat recently....i get along fine with him, and he knows about genuine fishing-nuts who buy and swap a lot of fishing poles at local shops, and certainly he knows I am one of those

I am sorry did you say something?

Edit: Ooopps

(I wont say which city)

and

Seems I was #1 in this city….which is the largest one in the state

Anyone who buys that many Glocks does indeed have a problem, thus I offer my advice for free in this case.

Stop buying Glocks trying to find ultimate satisfaction for there is none to be found, instead buy a couple of 1911's and peace will be found within. :neener::D

Hey, if nothing else you can be proud that you are #1! Get one of those trophy shops to make you one as a commemorative, maybe ask if you can get a printout of the list to frame. :D

actually, he called me 2 or three times...each time asking/demanding i come on down for a visit.........

as i said earlier.......he said some really nasty hooey that i cant recall for the life of me.......but i remember it was crude and his patience was growing short with me,...and i got the feeling he thought he wish he could just come roust me out of the house and drag me down some place for a talk.

of course the law kept him from doing any such thing. :scrutiny:

i also told him what pissed me off was a couple buddies of mine would sell everything they had every 2 months at a gunshow to any tom dick or harry......and buy FAR MORE handguns than I, but never in multiples...... and that his multiples list really didnt mean a damn thing.......

he agreed as per that, but he still didnt give a hoot. :scrutiny:

i remember also him saying::>
"glocks are just plastic guns...theyre not going up in value,..so who the hell you buying so many????????" :scrutiny:

Doesn't really apply as there isn't any straw purchasing of fishing poles. Straw purchasing is what the calls were about.

"glocks are just plastic guns...theyre not going up in value,..so who the hell you buying so many????????"
Because I wanted to and I have the right to do so. Unless you have evidence that I broke a law this call is over. Any further correspondence can be made through my lawyer, Goodbye. *CLICK*

Don't play the game and let them drive you nuts. You might say something regretable. Refer them to your lawyer. Unless they really have something he won't even hear from them. They want you to come down to the office to they can go on a fishing expedition and try and get you to say something incriminating.

You know, once he started mention glocks not going up in value, you should have demanded as a good agent of the ATf he help fix this problem by finding a good price on volume purchases of HK and Colt pistols of more than 10 years old in mint condition.

Obviously the ATF is not provided vitally needed firarm purchase services, and we thank said agent for his concern and obvious willingness to go through the legwork to be our own personal legal dealer to find such bargains.

damn, i think i broke the wiseass switch off at max setting...

My point was that I do not think that ancient philosophy was making straw purchases. I think that the ATF was on a fishing expedition. Why would they ask someone to come in for questioning when there is no evidence that any crime has been committed?

BTW -The agent was right about the Glocks. They won't go up in value. A Glock is worth about the same as it was selling for in 1993, 14 years ago. Unless Glock goes out of business or stops selling guns they will not increase in value. I also think that wasn't the point of the collection.

"we want you to come to our office….little talk”

What for?

“well, what the heck are you doing with buying 30+ glocks last year.????”

Have any of them been recovered from a crime scene?

"Well, uh, no, but I am supposed to investigate large multiple handgun purchases."

So I am not breaking the law?

"No you are not."

Then why do you need to talk to me and my lawyer at your office?

rkh,

Last time I checked, possession of any 1 or more parts that are used to convert a gun to a full-auto firearm, was a violation of NFA, and punishable by 10yrs and/or $250,000 fine. It didn't matter if you had all the parts to make the conversion, or whether you had done it. Someone else might be able to verify that.

IF I should ever happen to get a phone call from these "agents" is there anything preventing me from rcording the conversation?

PC:

The glock selector switch is legal for the same reason that an M-16 bolt carrier is legal, or an M-16 selector switch is legal.

The BATF doesn't consider them to be conversion parts.

That depends entirely on your state laws.

Look up your local "wiretap" statutes.

In Oregon, it is legal if one party is aware that the conversation is being recorded. Some other states consider it a "wiretap" if ANY party is unaware that the conversation is recorded.

Tell the agent you are recording, and state the time and date for the recorder. His reaction might be amusing.

Illegal Illegal Illegal...................... If you pass the background check then the ATF has no business with your firearms past that initial "can you own this firearm" check. At least in the non-communist states...

Not true at all........even when you buy your guns legally, theyre NOT to do with "as you please"....how so?

ATF cares a lot about people reselling and dealing without a liscence..

as well all know, theres a lot of folks, who move (sell) part of all of their collection of guns in order to buy something new or cool.

guys get sick of their whatever collection, of 1911s, or glocks, or Sigs.....they sell em to tom dick and harry, and buy something else.

ATF hates finding a handgun used in a murder ....and finding out bob sold it to sue, who sold it to harry, who sold it to larry, who sold it to ..............with no FFL holder / paperwork in the line.

unfortunately, guns are the one thing you can own, but can do with as you like, as pertains selling off a bunch of them to folks without a dealers lisc.

I remember a few folks who used to bring 10 guns or so to every flea market and other get together, ......they were moving too many guns without a dealers lisc, and it doesnt take long for that to catch up to them , and of course it did.

Would someone tell me if the "multiple purchase" clause holds true only if the guns were purchased from one dealer, or does the computer downtown catch it if purchased from different FFLs? Just curious.

Please stop using so many periods!

I would tell them to kiss off. The fact is that what you are doing is legal so they have right to harass you anymore. Just make sure you have track of all the guns and your golden.

A real simple explanation for this is you probably spent more on your Glocks than he made last year and he was very jealous, that should be satisfaction in it's own right.

You know, I told this story over on another board, …sad to say, more than a few said I was a liar, however its 100% true

If it is true, have any proof to back up your story. If not then no one can tell it is true even if you say it is.

My responses to the question of "Why 30 Glocks" of the same caliber?

I like Glock XX's"

They're plastic. I want plenty of spares for when the oil runs out.

I know a good thing when I see it.

I'm a bargain hunter. They'll cost a lot more in the future.

Heard of any good deals on ammo for my Glock XX's?

My 1911's were getting lonely.

I needed to do something with that box of empty holsters.

They're quite good on toast.

See that chess set over there?
