Beaver Cleaver-Pro Gun

I was watching an episode of Leave It To Beaver the other night and Beaver was invited to an all girls birthday party. Beaver did not want to go, but Ward made him. During the party, Beaver slipped away from the girls and found himself in a den with heads on the wall. The girls father was sitting in an easy chair and invited Beaver to sit in the next chair. He asked the Beaver if he liked guns and he said, "yes!" The man then proceded to show Beaver his collection. Beaver got to hold a Sharps rifle(I believe) and also a Colt single action. He did not point either gun in an unsafe direction.

Back at home, Wally caught Beaver writing the girl a letter and took it away from him. He thought that the Beaver was sweet on the girl, but when he read the note it said, "Dear, whatever the girls name was, I would like to walk you home from school today. I want to see your father's guns again."

Has anyone else seen this episode? I thought that it was really neat!

You have to remember that Leave It To Beaver was produced at a time when parents still taugh and instilled moral values in their children as did the schools.

If you look real close you can sometimes catch a glimps of a rifle of some sort in the corner of Wally and Beaver's bedroom.


Jerry Mathers is listed with the SAS as being pro gun.

I liked the episode where Beaver and Wally worked to get there Dad a hunting jacket. The last picture I saw of Beaver in a gun magagzine, he carried a derringer in 10mm.

and speaking of Eddie Haskell, as I recall, he became a cop in the LAPD, took one in the chest and was saved by his vest.

Great story, and it if isn't true, it should be.

Kenneth Osmond did indeed suffer multiple gunshot wounds as an LAPD officer, forcing him to retire after 18 years on the force.

I know that these shows were filmed in years past when things were more conservative. But, they are being shown TODAY!

I saw the episode in which Wally and Beaver bought Ward the hunting coat yesterday.

And I for one am glad they are still being shown. Perhaps people will once again year for the return to a sensible way of life.

I also like the episodes of the Andy Griffith Show that showed firearms in a good light. I especially like the one where Andy is dating the woman who ends up outshooting him in the skeet shoot.

When those shows were being produced in the late 50's my friends and I would go to the local police range in Bayonne NJ with our .22 rifles and we would take a local bus to get there.No one would even raise an eyebrow when three or four kids with rifles would get on the bus....Those were different times

Last time I checked Tony Dow (Gosh Wally!) was working behind the camera in Hollywood. I believe he has directed a bunch of different stuff from sitcoms to sci-fi.

What has happened to "Hollyweird". How did it start going down the tubes and taking most of the stars with it? Many of the old time stars were conservatives in their private lives and kept their politics to themselves. What the HE** happened?

Things have changed so much , Like Iron Mike said , when I was a kid you could walk through my small town with a shotgun or rifle and no one noticed or cared. If the local policeman spotted you he was only interested in how the hunting was or if you were really getting to be a good shot with that thing, today they would have to call for backup.

Tony Dow, who played Wally, had continued to act and guest star in a lot of TV shows. He has also produced and directed many tv shows.
