I own a GLOCK26 currently, and while it's a good gun, it's not a tremendous fit for my big gorilla hands, even with the finger extension. I'm fair with it on the range, but I wouldn't trust myself to nail targets, paper or otherwise, reliably more than 10 yards out. I can put holes in paper at 25 yards, but not where I want to.

With that exposition out of the way, at a range recently I got a chance to fire the Beretta 92. I've always loved the look of this gun from movies, but in my hand it was like true love. That gun just felt great in my hand. Weight, thickness, everything. First show down range at 21 feet nails the bullseye. And this is a well used range gun. I proceed to fire the remaining 9 rounds (California, boo!) into a tighter group than anything I've done with the Glock at 21 feet.

I turned to my friend and said "I shouldn't have shot this, because now I have to have one."

So what I want to ask is does anyone here own a Beretta 92? I've started doing research (though that stall at work, where most gun sites are blocked, but this isn't for some reason) but there is a lot of politically based "I hate Beretta because it replaced the .45 in the Army" pages and not a lot of straight reviews.

So I'm wondering what the personal experiences are here from this group? I really love the fit and will probably get one soon (Not sure if I want to get my Ruger Vaquero first or the Beretta) regardless, unless some catastrophic info is presented here.

Thanks for your time and thoughts.

(And .45 fans, don't worry, a 1911 is on my list of guns to acquire. Shot them at the range and was pleased with the performance of a Springfield)

Use the search function here on THR and you will find lots of accolades for the 92FS. My first pistol was a 92FS and I carry an M9 for my day job.

Accurate, reliable, soft shooting, and lots of rounds on tap. Pretty good looking, too. The only problem is carrying one concealed during the summertime, which requires either a "shoot me first" vest or doubling up on t-shirts.

92s are great reliable guns. They are built like a tank and will give years of service if you take care of them.
Before you buy a full size 9mm - check out a Sig P226 and a CZ75. You might like them better. Both have nice fat grips like the 92, and IMHO are even more accurate then a 92.

I have 2 Italian made 92s that have just been great shooters over the years...a famous (or maybe infamous) man once said,"If it fits, you must...." You get the idea ;)

Got my first 92FS the other day as well.... fine weapon. I am more accurate with it than any other weapon in my 'arsenal.'

Very smooth action and extremely easy to clean... only complain is the price of Beretta Magazines... at $40 a pop:what:, costs add up quick. Don't buy aftermarket mags either, stick with Beretta.

lots of experince with the 92's bigger brother the 96. basically the same gun. It's my duty weaopon so I trust my life on it, have yet to have a failure after 5000 plus rounds. very relable tough as nails, you won't regret it if you buy one

Thanks for all the thoughts, pretty much confirming what I thought (and hoped to hear!).

I tried using the search function but it came up with like 400 pages of hits that didnt actually seem relevant, maybe i needed to refine the search.

Thanks again and I figure within 3 months I'll be the proud owner of a Beretta 92FS!

M-9/Beretta 92/96 series pistols

I used a US Army M-9 9mmNATO pistol for about 2.5yrs when I was an MP. It was okay but did not have a solid balance and fit to me. In 1997 I got a LE surplus model 96D .40 and used it for around 2yrs. I like many of the Beretta 92/96 series features but for the weight and size I do not think it would be my first choice. The alloy frame and extended barrel seems top-heavy. The grip is very thick too, which can be hard to hold firmly for some people.
I think BerettaUSA sold so many M-9s/92Fs because the US military selected it over the SIGarms P-226 model. The main reason was the unit price not some other factors as many weapons experts claim.
Overall, if you like the big Beretta then keep using it.

The Beretta 92FS is one of the smoothest pistols out there. The action is amazingly buttery, and the gun is beautiful also. But, people complain about the wide grip. Mine was the long trigger pull, DA was no fun to shoot at all. I sometimes wish I kept mine, other times I'm glad it's gone.

It's a great gun, a very fun platform but there are other platforms out there that suit me better. Plus all the polymer coated parts and slanted dustcover on new 92FSs models still bug the heck outta me.

Ashtxsniper is correct, Mec-Gar magazines might as well be factory mags and are 100% reliable. If that's not good enough for you, factory magazines aren't as expensive as McKnife says, by a significant factor. Check CDNN!

I've got a Beretta 92G, it's basically the same gun but decock-only rather than with a manual safety and with night sights. It's one of my only guns that has never jammed.

It's been a really good gun. Unfortunately I'm trying to get rid of it because I also found my true 9mm love, the Browning Hi Power.

Also, +1 on Mec Gar mags. They're just as good as factory, half the price.

I too own a 92FS.

Action is slick as greased glass.
Fit is exceptional.

Darned accurate.

Bought it new. $295.00.

This is another of my 'never will sell' handguns.

Try the Beretta Forum for more in depth info on the 92 and other Beretta handguns.

I personally own a 92FS and love the smooth operation, 'controlled' recoil and accuracy. Get a CTC lasergrip to thicken the grip just ever so slighty and at the same time increase your accuracy by a HUGE margin:D

I am also the proud owner of an FN5.7. The two guns are almost the same size - FN slightly longer barrel - but the FN is substantially lighter.

I love shooting both guns, but the 92 is just that much cheaper to shoot and practice with - WWB 115 FMJ is very cheap at Wally world

Very reliable gun. Mine has never failed to feed or eject, even with the "USA Magazines" that I bought before I knew any better. I still prefer the Glock 19 as my speed is much better with a Glock trigger.

I've had my Beretta for about 2 years. I recently put on some Hogue grips with the finger indentations on the front. I can honestly say that at 15-25 feet, I can consistently hit a 2 target repeatedly. One day I was at the range with my wife. I lined up 3 shotgun shells at 15 feet and was able to hit everyone of them with one shot at a time. It's a great gun. I have the stainless steel with black grips. I wish they made a 45 in the same style.

I bought a 92FS about 2 months ago, 2 weeks later a PX4 40, I love the Berettas. What took me so long to get one? Pops

I like the trigger on the PX4 better, but you got to love the looks of the 92. Also the PX4 40 is the softest shooting 40 that I have ever shot. Pops
