Beretta 92FS or Glock 19 or 17

After reading the posts l understand the issue of no range that rents guns. It does make it tougher.

They are both great guns with loyal supporters. If you cannot fire then go to gunstore that has both and see which one works for YOU!

If this truly is a range gun then the G17 or 92FS are great picks.

I owned both the G17 and G19 and found them about equal in accuracy and ability to CCW. I have tried several 92FS and found them a bit bulky.

YOUR EXPERIENCE MAY VARY!

These are VASTLY different guns - like apples and oranges.

Striker fired internal safety polymer vs. Hammer fired steel double/single action handguns.

Go with Glock. I am a Glock fan through and through. They are all business. If you like Glocks, consider the XDs too. They are nearly as good in my opinion.

A Beretta 92 was my first handgun. As much as I wanted to love it, it was just too big for a 9mm. The thing is huge for a 9mm with only 16 round capacity. If you like Berettas, consider the CZs. They are more reliable, smaller, more ergonomic and $100 less.

You say you are looking for a range gun, and the Beretta is a better choice for that role. Out of all the semiautos I've shot it is the easiest to shoot accurately at the range. It feels very stable under recoil, and the slide feels like ball bearings on glass. Size and weight don't matter if you are not going to carry it.

I have a Glock 19 and 92FS INOX. The Beretta is a beautiful gun.

I prefer the simplicity of the Glock. I'll get a Glock 17 over a Beretta. My 92 is a safe queen. rarely shot. I may even consider getting rid of it in the future. I will keep my glock's forever.

I'd definitely go with Beretta. The Glock trigger hurts my finger after 50 rounds.

I've owned the Beretta, carried and shot one in the military. It's a great range piece to start out with, is user friendly and range friendly - it has a safety that is obvious to manipulate, and perceptively better for commands from the "tower." The weight and percieved reduction in recoil will help get more rounds in the black to start, which won't hurt your success any.

I own a G19C, the shorter sight radius and slightly higher percieved recoil tend to work against me. I get a few more flyers on fast followup shots, which I anticipated fewer, and less recoil. It's got compensating ports, for crying out loud. But it's a good carry piece, not huge on the belt, or wallet.

Your alternate uses will make up the difference in what you do. For Duty or range, the larger pistols have advantages in open carry and use. For personal protection off the range, the G19 is better. None of these are easy to conceal if you plan to do that.

I personally prefer the G19, the 92FS is just too big and heavy for my tastes. However, you never specified what you plan to use it for (unless I just missed it). For example, for a range gun the size of the 92FS isn't such a bad thing. However if you plan to carry the G19 stands far above the 92FS. Overall they are both great, but I am definitely a drinker of the Glock kool-aid.

You should have made this a vote thread. :) I have never owned one of the Beretta, because my former marine buddy told me he hated his. However, I do have several Glocks. No, I'm not a Glock-fan-boy. I also like my Colts.

For a range Glock, the 19 is nice, but a bit light, and has a short sight radius. The 17 is better in that sense. Either can also doubt for CCW if you ever choose. However, I suggest the Glock 34. Now that is a range pistol! Holy moly they are accurate. I even use mine for CCW. :)

Best of luck in deciding. Follow up with some pictures of the pistol and the range targets. In closing, I suggest you try to locate someone who owns the pistols that interest you, and see if you can meet up to test them. Go with what feels best in-the-hand.

Having carried and used a Beretta 92F daily for most of 25 years, my vote would go to the Glock 19. Even as a range gun, the G19 seems to be much more enjoyable to shoot that the Beretta 92F. At least it's much more enjoyable as far as I'm concerned.

The Beretta is a heavy, full size and bulky pistol and not extremely easy to conceal if used as a carry gun. The G19 is lighter, mid-sized as compared to the Beretta 92F and fairly easy to conceal on most people who know how to carry concealed and have the right equipment.

However, having said that, the Beretta 92F isn't a bad gun at all. You have the heavy pull on the first shot, then fairly light for subsequent shots, provided you don't de-cock it. I never had any reliability problems with the Beretta 92F in all the years I caarried and shot it for monthly qualification.

Both are very reliable mechanically and are more accurate with quality 9mm ammunition than most shooters can hope to be. My feelings wouldn't be hurt if I used either of these fine weapons. But my choice would be the G19. Why? I carried the Beretta 92F for so long, why not try something else?

If you're EVER going to carry it get the G19. Very versatile handgun. Try them all and see what you like. The Beretta is the prettiest though.

Have owned Berettas and Glocks (17 and 19). Either are a good choice but for defense Glock is the only choice.

There are many surplus police Glocks available for reasonable prices (under 400). Both of mine are retired Dallas PD that display only a bit of holster wear.

Glock still outsells all other makes for PD/LE. It's ugly and utterly reliable.

Which Fits You Better

I have carried both on duty and own both models now.

Both are very reliable and can be easily accessorized.

If I wanted just a range gun, then the BERETTA is the best choice. It is very accurate. You do not have to fire your first shot double action on a range unless you are combat shooting, so the double action trigger is not a problem. (I prefer the DOUBLE ACTION ONLY VERSIONS for my own use).

If you might carry the gun concealled, then the GLOCK 19 is the best choice. It is the easist to conceal and my favorite GLOCK model.

If you have a friend with either model, see if you can get one of them to loan it to you. Otherwise, try the grip feel and action at a gun store and decide which fits you best.

Either one is a good choice.

Good luck,

Jim

I second what Seeker Two said! However for me the Beretta 92fs is a better fit, however if you plan on carrying it concealed go G19 as its not quite as large. If you go 92fs check out the new Mec Gar opti mags with 20rd capacity.
