I've looked at the Glock 27 and Glock 35 and both just don't feel right in my hand
Yesterday I discovered the Beretta 9000 series handgun.
It's everything I like in a handgun, and I think the price is reasonable.
Can get a used 9mm of it for about 320 before tax.
Can get a NEW .40 for 340 before tax.

The .40 only takes 6 rounds plus a chambered I think
The 9mm takes 10 plus a chambered, and has a cool flip down extension in the magazine, that can be collapsed.
Here are pics of them both

Is this a good deal? I really like this gun and it feels good in my hand. I have a friend that carries a full sized beretta and I love that gun.
Let me know what you think folks. I don't really want to get an XD or a Kimber ultra carry. They are the only other small guns I like. This would take ammo I already buy, and fits my hand the best.

If you like it, get it. Just know that they are no longer available and were only made for a short time. This means that accessories and parts availability will be quite low.

Bad Choice

NIGHTWING,

Mas AYOOB wrote about this gun in his book about the BERETTA pistols and called it a mistake. He said all their other guns were fine, but avoid this one.

I found one of the Ayoob reviews:

Ayoob said:
The 9000 On The Range

Accuracy was not at all up to what is expected from a Beretta. Despite the heavy trigger, the sights were dead on target each time the shot broke (We just brought the trigger back more slowly). Five out of six test loads ran from 5" to more than 7" for five-shot groups at 25 yards.

It's a defensive handgun, not a bullseye pistol. Move that average down to the 21 foot distance preached by most instructors and you've got a group of <2".

.40 is 10+1, 9mm is 12+1.

I had a 9000s and it was a very reliable gun. Accurate enough. Only thing is they are very thick in the grip front-to-back. I have big hands, so it didn't bother me, but for shooters with smallish paws, the 9000 isn't very comfortable.

I ended up giving it to my ex when she left to offset sofa that we had purchased together, which stayed with me. But I really never had a complaint about the little pistol. I don't ever recall it jamming in probably about 2,000 rounds fired.

So I Got it. It just feels better than anything sub compact in my hand.
And I got the 9mm for a STEAL! They had it discounted plus were having a sale this weekend. out the door for $280 bucks. It's super cool. I think it'll be awesome. 9mm. I'll take pics later. For the price it's well worth it.

I have 2 of them a 9mm and a .40 and I find them some of the best $300 NIB guns you can find. The fat grip will not fit everyone but I find it very comfortable. One of them stays in my truck full-time and the other is my nightstand gun. They are certainly reliable enough and accurate enough to be a CCW piece but they're a bit chunky to conceal.

They are completely reliable, fun to shoot, accurate enough for a compact defensive pistol, and relatively cheap. Nope I would not have paid anywhere near what they used to be priced at but for $300 or so it's hard to find a better NEW gun. (Nope, wouldn't trade my Sig P6 for one)...

9000s

Three points:

  1. If it fits your hand, buy it.
  2. It's replacement, the PX4 Compact, is coming on the market soon.
  3. Beretta has been around for over 500 years, and has a significant manufacturing element in the USA. Parts will be available from the manufacturer for your lifetime.
I have one as my carry gun.

Yeah I have a long palm, so I've never felt a gun fit in my hand better than this.

1) Oh it does! Very well!!!
2) Ehh. budget is part of my purchase too. This one is amazingly affordable! Got it discounted and on sale. it was 280.00 almost exactly after tax. well worth it to me
3) Exactly

The 9000 was my wife and I's first pistol and we still love it to this day. I will admit that it's not a dead on target shooter like some of our other guns but it's plenty accurate for SD work. It's also 100% reliable, being the ONLY gun we have that has never jammed over 1000s of rounds.

Basically my thoughts are this, I love all my guns, most of which are way more expensive and nicer. But when something goes bump in the night I grab the 9000 first 'cause that's 12+1 rounds of 9mm JHP that's guaranteed to go bang everytime and hit on target.

Oh yeah and I don't know if you've figured this out yet, but my wife loves that it's the only DA/SA gun we have where engaging the safety does not decock the gun. So you can keep it locked and cocked with the safety on which really offsets the long trigger pull. Not sure if you'd want to do this CC but it's nice when it's sitting in the bedstand.

Good choice by the way, you won't regret it.

i own a 9000s for ccw in .40 cal. i love this gun works great for me bit much for my wife ( smaller hands) and i have put about 1000 rounds though it with 2 jams (cheap reload gun show stuff) for ccw i run federal hst though it and it goes bang every time. only thing i do not like is the plastic spring rail thingy sorry not real clear what the parts real name is :( i have seen it bend a few time and while i have yet to break it,i fear its a mater of time . but with that said it is my first real pistol ( ruger mkII) i love it to death. good luck with yours
