For that price range, I suggest Kimber's SS Custom II Target in either 9MM or 45. Very good accuracy and nice trigger right out of the box.

LGS has stainless 92s on sale for $600 and change. Why are people saying they're hard to find?

There are tons of them. A friend got one last month from a LGS and they had like 4 of them. $600 was the price.

Range gun that feels more substantial? 5906 with a set of straight grips unless you have large hands. The only problem is that there won't be any recoil like a "real" gun. :D

The 92FS is a great choice in stainless. It's a fun gun to shoot.

It's easy to maintain.

Good choice for .9X19mm. :)

Another great choice for .45 ACP would be the Stainless Steel "Brushed finished" Colt XSE Model. My father bought one a few years back and has been a great pistol, and I believe he got it for under $1k.

New Browning Hi-Power MKIII pistols now cost $900-$950! I know...

Why the insistence upon stainless? Why not buy a gun and have Robar NP3 it? NP3 is better than stainless by a significant margin.

Best stainless 9mm/45 would be the SVI, every part is also machined, no MIM or cast parts.

The 45 barrel shoots a little better than the 9mm on mine but it really doesn't make much difference as the test targets below were shot from 50 yds.

jmorris,

Those groups are too big and inconsistent. Something must be wrong with your gun. :neener:

That group with the 45 barrel is amazing.

5906 hands down......you'll wear out before it will and it feeds ANYTHING.....accuracy is quite decent also....plus you can beat the price.

In all stainless...I would say a 5906 in 9mm (top right) or in .45...a 4506 (top left) or a 4516 (bottom left). These are great shooters.

+1000 on the S&Ws, I LOVE my 5906, I've put thousands upon thousands of rounds through it and it shoots just like the day I got it. I can't wait to get a 1006 and 4506. The Stainless SW1911s are also exquisite. I have close to 4000 rounds through mine and it is my trusted EDC.

I don't have much experience with the SIGs but they seem really nice.

Another 5906 fan here. They are very common and still affordable...for now.

The CZ75 could, very well be the best DA autopistol ever made.
The Taurus PT99 stainless has been a fantastic pistol for me for 15 years.
