I'm looking for a duty size/type .22lr pistol and I know the Mosquito has had it share of bad rap. I've been watching and read lots on this pistol recently and its seems to be "better" for some reason. I'm looking specifically for a DA\SA practice .22lr pistol, I don't mind a less then perfect trigger or an occasional stoppage, in fact since its a training pistol, these things would be okay. What I don't want is a POS that is going to fail multiple times per mag or have mechanical issues. With that said, what do you all think of the Mosquito? My .22lr ammo is CCI Blazer 40g RN HV.
btw: I don't want a Ruger Mkxxx or any "target type" .22 I already have a boringly reliable, laser accurate Buckmark.

It's good quality, with great fit, finish and feel, but it is ammo sensitive.

That it came with only one mag, and additional ones are damn near $40 really pissed me off though.

I bought one. It's a great feeling handgun. However, that's where I have to stop being nice. Mine would only cycle ammo about half the time. It is the most unreliable handgun i've ever known by a mile. After my first session I took it down to clean it and 2 springs fell out of it. I don't know where they came from. Regardless, the pistol will fire but now has to be hand cycled to clear and load ammunition.

I need to send it to Sig but I really don't care. Live and learn. Sig has a "real" 22 calibur pistol which is a version of one of their 9mm's or something. I've heard that pistol is pretty nice. I'd buy one if I had 600 bucks laying around.

I'm ready to move on this now because an LGS has a "while supplies last" sale going on: A black Mosquito, two additional mags(metal) and a box of HV ammo for $299

I'll have to second what m2Steven said. After carefully doing everything the manual recommended and then making the other mods. that everyone feels improve the action, it still was never a reliable or accurate pistol for me.

I guess if you really want to practice clearing jams as part of your training, it will work fine; otherwise I'd look eslewhere. You might want to look at the P22 Walther as an option. It's a similar DA/SA, made with similar materials, but seems to have a little better reputation for reliability. I've never owned a P22 though, so I'm not speaking from personal experience.

The P22 I once had was reliable but is too small for my needs and comfort. On the other end a CZ Kadet is too expensive. So this deal going on the Mosquito is perfect price wise for pistol in the size and configuration I want. ......I just have this hold back based on all the crap I've read. :(

My Skeeter would feed CCI Mini-Mags halfway reliably, but otherwise it was a drama queen--doing just about everything except working like an auto pistol should. I won't buy another.

S&W has a new M&P 22....no first hand expierence but maybe you should look into it

My mosquito is flawless with CCI high velocity ammo, but sucks crap with wally bulk feds and rems. I have the light spring in right now. Is there a lighter spring out there I can purchase?

The balance and feel of the gun surpasses all the other 22 autos that I have sampled. It feels like your holding a full size 9mm or 40.

I purchased my Sig 3 years ago. Here is a picture of my Sig and the card that came new in box. It says on the card to shoot CCI mini-mags.

No experience here but my Walther P22 was also excellent and reliable out of the box. I got it used but after opening it up I can say for a fact that it hadn't had more than a couple hundred rounds through it (looked flawless and finish wasn't even scraped).

Some people have had bad experiences with the P22 but the newer ones seem to be MUCH better than the early manufactured ones.

Sorry devildog4329....I already jumped on the local deal.
I went ahead and picked up the Mosquito package. So far I like the pistol very much, I cleaned up all the factory preserves, got it well lubed and ready to go. I hand cycled a few mags through with no problems. Sig offers a $10 MIR on CCI Mini-Mags with the purchase of 4 boxes. So I took advantage of that and got 400 rounds of the 40g RN for "break-in". My stock of .22lr is all CCI Blazer 40g RN HV(same as the Mini-Mags without the copper plating) I'm expecting these to run well if the MMs do. Plus, the deal included 400 rounds of Remy. Game Loads(Golden Bullet) 36g HP HV...I guess the Mosquitos like these too
Pics and a report to come...

I'm sure you'll be happy with the pistol. Keep it clean and check for worn parts every now and then and it'll be fine.

You fired it yet? Curious of your experience with it, heard both positive and negative responses on this one. Negative are usually closer to when they first started making them just like the Walther P22 pistols and several other early manufactured models from various manufacturers.

Mike-- You did better than I did. When I got mine I went out with some feds from wally world and came back pissed. You should have no problems with the high velocity ammo over 1200fps.

Don't forget to get a laser, they are a blast on a cloudy day.:)

Depends on how you define "dedicated" .22LR. The linked Sig comes with a frame, letting it act as a standalone "dedicated" .22LR. Was the entire gun designed around the .22LR round? Well, no, not entirely. The slide certainly is but the frame is a standard 226 frame. Does that really matter? Probably not.

The nice thing about buying a standalone 22 is that you can avoid dirtying up/wearing the parts in your existing gun. That said, I have absolutely no regrets about buying a CZ Kadet slide for my Shadow custom - I now can practice using dirt cheap ammo but the exact same trigger/ergonomics I've come to love in my Shadow. At the same time, I'm sure I'm putting some wear and tear on my beloved Shadow when I shoot 600 rounds of .22LR through the Kadet on any given weekend. That'd be one advantage of having a standalone .22LR - if it wears out after tens of thousands of rounds, just buy another for a few hundred bucks and get back to shootin'. :)

I bought one for my wife in.. 2008? I only run it with CCI mini-mags and it has performed flawlessly. I really can't commend the pistol enough.. or atleast mine. I use it to train friends who haven't shot pistols before. For me it truly is an excellent and accurate firearm. I can easily dump the entire magazine in under three seconds at a target 15 yards away and get tight little groups.

That being said I've heard about others having nothing but trouble with them.. don't know what to say. In fact - I barely clean the Sig Mosquito I run it dirty about half the time.

Nice pistol

Nice pistol . Good price. I still have a whole in the safe for a semi-auto .22lr and may have to look at one of these. Hated the Ruger as it was a P.I.T.A. to breakdown and clean. How hard is the Sig to maintain ? Only running certain .22lr ammo won't work for plinking tho, are there issues with the newer models and ammo ? thanks WVleo

I got the Mosquito out tonight for its initial running. Let me say right off the bat, I'm impressed. The round count total was 300 without one failure or stoppage of any kind, I even tried to make it fail. I was out for a function check but even in rapid fire, off hand, weak hand and limp wristing it was obvious the pistol has inherent accuracy.
The shot break down was like this:
155 rounds of CCI Mini-Mag 40g, 50 rounds of CCI Blazer 40g, 50 rounds of Remy Golden Bullet 36g HP, 30 rounds of CCI Stinger 32g HP and 15rounds of odd ball Aquila 60g RN sub-sonic.
Here's a a pic of the rounds

Here is the Aquila sub-sonic rounds(dark tips). My buddy had them on hand and as a joke at the end of the session with the Skeeter all dirty we tried the rounds. I was not expecting them to cycle but I ran a whole mag perfectly...So, I then loaded another mag staggering these with Mini-Mags and this mag ran perfectly, too.....Go figure, this Mosquito is a good gun :D

They're crap guns. Buy something else. They're .22s, jeez, get something that works.

Are you a moron? or simply illiterate? First, I already bought it. Second(the big part that must have escaped you) it does work!

Sorry THR, I know this is a big forum with all types and I usually do brush off the bs commentary....but, I guess plain dumb just bugged me this morning.
