Best Caliber That Never Took-off

30-06. Don't know why but it never caught on.

17 HM2. Cheap, low noise, super fast and great ballistics for a rimfire. As good as it was it was still a niche round.
Yeah, kinda like the 30-30 and the 308...real shame, oh boy????

.32 caliber rifles really never went anywhere.

I'd have to say 10mm, my second favorite pistol round, and a frequent carry. I dream of the day when all the known ammo manufacturers have several loadings in proper form, rather than simply Winchester Silver-Tips. Available at Wal-Mart, please.

Til that day, I'll stick to Double-Tap and my own reloads.

I find myself intrigued by two calibers that i own that have never caught on.
375 Remington Ultra Mag
8mm Remington
I know it makes me either a glutton for punishment or a sucker for reloading but i am just fascinated by both cartridges.
+1 for 10mm.

After reading up on the 7-30 Waters in the thread about Winchester Model 94 calibres, I think it's a shame that it never got more popular. It's a .30-30 necked down to 7mm, and is much more flat shooting, and ballistically superior to its parent cartridge. It's only commercially chambered in the T-C pistol nowadays. If I ever see a Model 94 in 7-30 for sale, I'd be inclined to grab it.

6.5x54 Mannlicher Schoenauer

.33 Winchester

.333 Jeffery

.401 Herter's Powermag (with the wide variety of .40/10mm bullets available, it would have had more versatility than the .41 Magnum.)

The 284 win. The 35's in 35 wheelin ,358 win. and 350 Rem mag. The 6mm Rem and 8 mm Rem Mag, the .222 Rem and 264 Win mag. 38 super and 10 mm and 41 mag and the 6x47 which IMO would make a great battle round for the AR platform to replace the 5.56 and I won't get into the Old turn of the century rounds that were in the mausers and are still to this day excellent rounds

Out of many rounds that should have been more popular I'd go with two in particular,

.32 H&R Magnum for snubbies, 6 rounds instead of 5 with energy of .38 special.

.221 fireball, If someone would work this into a revolver platform, I'd be first in line to slide this into a holster.
A 50 gr. bullet at 2800 fps, yeah, that's gotta sting a little! :what:

358 Win and 35 Whelen are good picks for this thread...

But, I think the BEST for this thread is the 480 Ruger.
You get just as good terminal performance as the 454 with recoil that isn't much more than a 44 mag.

+1 on the 480 Ruger!!
And I love the 41 Mag and 41 Special.
+460 Rowland
+445 SuperMag
+375 SuperMag
+41AE

Well its not a caliber, but Winchester made some 14ga. model 59's back in the early 60's. I always thought that would be perfect. I love the 16ga. and shoot it better than the 12, but always wished it would reach out a little further on those days when the birds fly so high.

.284 Winchester. I got quite a few caribou with a Winchester model 88 in .284, nice flat shooting cartridge. I liked it almost as much as that 'unpopular' 30-06 which was my favorite moose and bear rifle.
