1. Divorce sale in Alaska in 1991...Browning A Bolt Stainless Steel Stalker in 7mm with scope and all but the 4 rounds my associate had test fired, for $500.
2. Won an absolute mint M1D, complete with all the fixin's in the lottery from the DCM back in 1995, for $650.
3. Around 2000, a coworker in Germany unfortunately lost his TESA status and got OR'd...since I was in a German American Shooting Club, I had a Waffenbestizkarte and traded him 100 liters of gas coupons for a Walther PP. Got it back to CONUS with an ATF-6.
4. Traded a very nice Don Stivers print for a Winnie Garand and bayonet.
5. Am looking for my next deal now!

About 18 months ago I found a nice S&W Model 18 revolver for a little over $300 with tax. Not pristine, but in very good shape, just some minor blueing wear.

I don't understand why double action rimfire revolvers are SO expensive these days, but I'd wanted one for some time and felt like I'd never get a better price.

My Best Deals

Unissued Yugo SKS with all the fixins' for $125 OTD at a gunshow in charlotte, NC about 5 years ago

S&W 65-3 4" heavy bbl, satin SS finish for $150 from my brother about 2 months ago

Yesterday at the gun show i bought a Kahr CW45 for $420 OTD, but he only gave me that deal after i haggled with him for 20 minutes and agreed to pay his full asking price of $219+tax for a blued Ruger 10/22 with black synthetic stock

Smith and Wesson 29-2, 6.5" barrel, 95% condition. $300 4 years ago.

Had looked it up in a blue book of guns, it said $350 for an excellent condition. 300 for great/good.

Picked up a 686 4" with beautiful wooden grips at a show 3 years ago for $425. I'd rate it 90% easily.

It evens out in the end though. Trust me. Some things really stick you over.

Best buy I ever did? Model 52B Winchester complete with orginal 5 rd, 10 rd, and single shot adapter Mags. Totally complete except for hang tag, manual, and orginal box. My cost $50.00.

It now wears a Lyman Super Target Spot 15X, that alone cost much more than the rifle.

Well I just posted earlier about how I got an AK drum for $15 and just sold it for $150. The plot thickens. Just got a Milled Yugo M64 U/Folder kit for $300 shipped. With that $150 That brings the kit to a cool $165!!! Im ecstatic right now!

Colt Diamondback 22lr with a 4" barrel. $20 with holster. In all fairness, I had no idea what its real value was. Guy asked if I was interested in buying another gun as he just had a child and his wife said it had to go. I said How much, and what is it? He said some old .22 revolver he bought from a friend over 20 yrs ago, how about $20? I said sure, might be fun to plink with. that was 30 yrs ago, but it still is fun to shoot. Darn good little pistol.

I was working in a SW Colorado tourist town as a waiter/bartender, and had about $60 in my wallet. On my way to the bank to cash my meager paycheck (tips are taxed out of the $2-5 an hour, so paychecks were less than $200), I stopped in a going-out-of-business pawn shop. He had a Remington 870 Express, 20" barrel with rem-chokes, parkerized/synthetic, barely used, priced at $150. I pulled out my wallet and started to say "I've got $60 cash, and can get you another $60 within the hour if you'll hold it." But he cut me off at 'cash' and said "Sounds like a deal."

Second best deal: Years later, my 20" barrel just isn't making the longer shots. (My buddies called it the 'shot-carbine'.) I stop by Wally World to price a longer gun, and see a Remington 870 Super Magnum priced for for the regular Express price, under $300 at the time. I believe it was about an $80 price break. They honored the price and were very polite, although I could tell that the manager wasn't happy about it.

I got an AMT .45 Backup for $200 a few years ago, guy I bought it from said it had FTF issues he couldn't fix. I played around with it and found that it worked fine if loaded 4 in the mag and one in the chamber. Loaded 4+1 it fires everything, lead, HP, FMJ. Even mixed rounds.

Old boyscouts Marlin 780--$50 (donation).

Just picked up a Mossberg 500 in near perfect shape for about $100. Action also as smooth as butters.

Some guns (a lot of pump guns come to mind) are just better after someone else shot the hell out of them.

I traded a gold bracelet and chain that my ex-wife gave me for a nice .22 rifle, best trade I ever made! (Well maybe second best, first was ex-wife for current wife:D:D)

Best deal ever was a blued 3 inch S&W model 36, in almost LNIB condition. $150 from a relative. Her husband owned it and passed away and she wanted it out of the house. She asked for a $100 I told her it was worth more. She wanted it to stay in the family, I gave her $150 for it anyway.

person a asked me to sell a piece of radio equipment that was in a used truck he bought, said he would be happy with $75.00.
person b (a fellow gun nut)calls me looking for a piece of radio equipment like i was selling for person a
b wanted to know if i would be interested in partial trade for a handgun, of course i said yes. he showed me his list and i asked about the series 70 colt, he said it was like new he only shot it once since he bought it new.
he brings the gun to the shop i worked at and showed it to me and i offered radio and $150 for the gun, he said ok pulled out his wallet and gave me $150 and the gun for the radio. next day he dropped off the origional box, second clip and half a box of ammo.
so i was paid $75.00 to take a like new series 70 colt.
