good lordy....you left the Remington 870 off! The best deffensive shotgun made is not ON the list -LOL (No Ithaca 37 either!)

I find it amazing that the USAS-12 discontinued win 1300 and Saiga's import oddity are there and no homegrown bread and butter 870!....has anyone here actually fired a USAS-12 or ran it it extensively to make a call like that? I'm sure it's an ultra fun toy but I think I'd stick with my humble 870 in a real deffensive situation.

I like my intergalactic space-federation issued ray gun better myself! :neener:

^^ you, I've been reading your posts all over the internet about that gun. No one has it around here, though. I keep checking in with Dick's though.

Pumps and lever actions do not qualify as "home defense" weapons. What if you lose the use of one arm? What if you want to "shoot around a barricade"?
Saiga 12 numero uno. Reliable, hi capacity and can be had with a folding stock.

What happened to the 870?

Pumps most certainly do qualify as HD weapons.

No better weapon than the 870, carried it in the USMC. Pump weapons do not qualify as "home defense" weapons. I guess that we need to inform the military that they do not qualify as combat weapons too. Come on and get smart, sometimes simple is better, especially when under stress and in the dark.:banghead:

Auto loaders don't qualify as HD weapons, what if it Jams?

You'd cycle it manually, like you would a bolt-action rifle.

What happens in a stressful situation when you short-stoke a pump?? With a Mossberg, not a huge deal, just cycle it again....do it with an 870, and you've just turned your shotgun into a club, while still usefull, it's just not quite as effective....

Modern, well maintained autoloaders, shooting the correct ammo don't jam for no reason...

i have never fired a usas 12,but i handled one when they were over the counter(pre '94).it is basicly an ar-15 in 12ga.,it was big, heaaavey, and unwieldy.the plastic that comprised the drum and furniture did not inspire confidence.franchi made a clip fed pump /semi,a few got by before the import ban.as far as "assult shotgun",id go with saiga.for defense i would go with something with a long record: mossy, benelli, remy, etc.preferably semi-auto....im a lazy, lazy man:p btw, if anyone has owned a usas or the franci please post,i would like to hear your opinion on them.

+1 for the Remington 870.

Pumps and lever actions do not qualify as "home defense" weapons.

Should we forget about using revolvers too?

Even if a Remington 870 did jam on me (unlikely since I've never had this happen after putting 1000's of rounds through mine), I still have a single shot weapon before the potential malfunction.
