Best drop in ar15 trigger?

For other than use in a range toy, RRAs shouldn't be included in the same sentence as Geisseles or LaRues. :barf:

I have 4 different ones... and here's my two cents on them...

1. Geissele SSA-E - I have a number of these triggers and really like all of them... HOWEVER... it's possible that they can vary a bit. For example, I have 2 that are totally stunning, one that's really, really nice, and one (that I put in a Colt lower) that's kind of average. It's light, but there's a tiny bit of creep and I can tell when it's going to let off. I do like the SSA-E triggers though. They're a two stage, with the second stage usually breaking very cleanly and lightly.

2. I have one Hipertouch 24C trigger. It is truly outstanding. It's a single stage trigger. Mine was one of the first manufactured and it came with a curved shoe that looks absolutely stock - just like the one that came in your AR. I don't have any of the plastic trigger shoe covers with mine. It looks like a normal trigger. It came with 3 sets of springs that will vary the trigger pull from light to medium, to heavier. I set mine up for the lightest pull (it's a bench rifle, usually) and it's really nice and VERY light. It's fairly expensive (Brownell's) and it has a different geometry than a stock trigger, but it works very well. I like it and would be happy with another. Read about them before buying one. Their web site has videos that show you how they work. Great trigger!

3. Elftmann - a true drop-in module. This is a simple one to install for sure! It's adjustable via an allen screw that's accessible without taking anything apart. These are probably the simplest trigger I've seen and the smoothest. On par with the Hipertouch for lightness and crispness, and I don't even have it adjusted to its lightest setting. No need. There is NO creep/movement and the let-off is a total surprise. Great target trigger in my opinion. The pins rotate on actual bearings. I like this trigger and will buy another when I need a trigger. It's also kind of expensive, but you can find them on sale sometimes, as I did. (~$165 on sale via internet, $240 normally over the counter). One thing to note - the reset is very obvious - you can even hear the trigger reset after firing. It's not a problem but some people will definitely notice it. I like it. There's no doubt when you're able to fire the next shot.

4. RRA (Rock River) "National Match" - an average trigger that I don't think should be called "National Match". I immediately took mine out and put in a Geissele at the time, which was an improvement. Maybe others have had better luck with theirs. Mine worked fine, but it was heavier and grittier than any of the ones I talked about above. (This is NOT a reflection on their rifles for sure - I absolutely LOVE my 20". It is a true tack driver.... the most accurate and consistent of all my ARs.)

There's my opinion and I'm sticking to it! :)

I'm going to be a contrarian here.

Of course, you must understand that where I shoot, I never have more than 200 meters of open space and the distances are often less than 100 meters, so for my purposes the distances are short and the target (usually a white tail deer) has a comparatively large area of vital organs. For me, the difference in accuracy between a rough 8 pound trigger and a smooth 5 pound trigger are probably inconsequential.

I recently bought a Smith & Wesson M&P-15 rifle. Particularly for a "cheap" rifle, I found the trigger to be surprisingly smooth with a clean break. By the third ten-round string, I could replicate the Lethal Weapon smiley face target.

I just put a hyper touch EDT3 trigger in a recent build and I am very happy with it. They are great if you like a zero creep single stage that breaks like glass. I think they are a great trigger and are priced under $100.

My RRA NM trigger crapped out at a very low round count. Maybe they are better these days. Dunno.

My Spikes Battle trigger was (Gave rifle to my son) nice compared to stock.

My ALG Combat Trigger is nice. I would buy another one.

My Timney has some creep and the break isn't very predictable, but it's light. Not good for the money IMHO.

My Larue MBT trigger is very nice. It was on sale for $99 for the "I can wait" version. I would buy another one.
