Best gun for deer

I've hunted dear with a 243 win, 7mm-08, 300 sav, 25-35, 33 WCF, 338-06, and 280 ai. The only ones I've ever killed dear with (10 bucks total) are my 243 win (9 bucks) and 280 ai (1 buck). I've pretty much given up hunting deer with anything but my 243, they just don't like to show up when I've got other rifles in my hand. Elk are not so picky about what rifle I'm packing.

What is the best gun for deer in your opinion? 243? 30-06? 7.62 series? other?
My two go-to deer getters are a Marlin 336 .30-30 and a Savage .308, and both do fine. I will tell you that I do usually have to look a bit for the animal, but rarely are they more than 100 yards from the shot. My son has taken 5 deer with a .243, and all were DRT, but his shot placement was perfect.

In prior years, I used a 7mag for nearly 10 seasons, and cannot recall a single run-off. Ditto my sons .30/06. If I were looking for a dedicated deer getter, it would be a .30/06. Much cheaper to shoot than the 7mag, sure seems to hit the whitetails just as hard.

35 Remington features a 200 grain bullet with a lot of lead exposed at the blunt tip. It hits very hard at typical forest distances. My Uncle Larry used this round for a Canadian moose & bear hunt with great success.

.243 is my favorite right now, and for the past several years. Have a 6.8 I built for my son that is yet to be blooded by either of us, and my dad gave me an old Marlin 30AS I haven't hunted with yet either. The only rifle I've killed anything with besides my .243 is my old T/C .50 muzzleloader.

The buck I killed in November is the fastest DRT I've ever seen that wasn't a head or spine shot, and was with the .243.
