i've found colt's customer service to be rather good. the same goes for ruger, savage, cz, kimber, remington, and there are probably a couple others i'm forgetting.

the only negative experience i've had and it wasn't a huge deal, was with lmt, which is unfortunate, because i was set to buy another rifle from them.
It's like the rifles themselves: the person on the other line could be a complete jerk, regardless of who they work for. I called Colt over a bad staking job, and got not only run around, but attitude to boot from an industry favorite. Needless to say, I wasn't happy.
Rugers been good, never called the others you've listed, but they're all big names.

Sorry about LMT. Once again, big names need to remember its the little people that matter.

Theres 2 threads on arf right now.
1 a S&W KB from bad ammo
1 a Colt KB from bad ammo

S&W has told the owner tough luck, ammo was at fault (true), there is nothing we will do for you. Owner has been waiting 3 months to receive his rifle back so far..
I also have a co-worker with a KBd S&W sport with the exact same experince.

Colt said ammo was at fault (true), but we will still make it right, and a new rifle was at his door within 3 weeks.

Point being, YMMV, when customer service is involved. Just sayin....

got a high standard ar and found it had a bad barrel. gave them a call and was told to send it back to them. time between me sending it and getting it back was 5 days. the people i talked to on the phone sounded like they were truely sorry i was having trouble and that they would do whatever was required to fix the problem.
now i call that standing behind your product.

With crappy customer service being everywhere you look now days I say a company with a good product and good customer service is a keeper.
My only experience with CS use for ARs, has been Smith and Colt. So, being that my experience with Smith on SEVERAL occasions has been pleasant, expedited service, I'd buy from them repeatedly.

So you have had to send your Smith back several times or what?

I'm sorry you had to deal with S&W's customer service so many times.

Curious...is Smith's customer service so good and apparently reputable in the AR world for the same reason as Kel Tec's over in the handgun realm?

It's starting to seem, to me, like an awful lot of smith and wesson sport fans...a gun that hasn't been out all that long...point very quickly to customer service.

Ha! Keep fishing buddy.

mrmeanmustard, what gives? why not just state what your customer service interactions with S&W have been about instead of stating how great it is, and then being vague and elusive as to why you needed it. posting like that only makes it seem as though you have something to hide that will tarnish the rep of your beloved sport. it also doesn't do much for your credibility here.

spent casing- thanks for the info! i don't read arfcom, but it's good to know.

I was wondering myself why no one's mentioned Spikes Tactical, then finally on post #65,Tony noticed the omission, too.
I've had a Spikes middy for close to 2 years, and I'm really impressed ( my other AR experience is admittledly limited to Colt,S&W and RR, all of which I was pleased with, too.)
Now, back to the cat-fight at hand !! I agree with Proven's above post,I think mrmustard needs to come clean, or risk confirming my suspicion that he's a 14 year old troll. :D

who's poking? i'm just asking him to add sustance to his statements in regards to S&W's customer service? i like a perosn to back up their claims if i'm to believe or put any stock in what they say. ymmv, of course.

Called to ask reps if, being that the rifle barrel isn't in-house, do they still stand by it should any issues arise or if it was Thompson Centers baby, beings that it's their barrel, even though they own TC.

The Colt issue, circa 2009, was over a staking issue. After having seen pictures of a "properly" staked Colt key, suffice it to say it was lacking. I haven't any pics saved of it, but it looked lacking (think minute dings at best, and you'll get the idea). After hitting the boards, I'd found really no one with this problem. However, Colt did not offer to stake it properly, and short of calling me a liar, said it was an unfounded situation. Rare, but it still happened.

There you go, that's the short of it. I've used S&W CS for a pistol, and questions about rifles, warranty work, even non warranty work they didn't charge me for (even free shipping). Never a bad experience, and they go the extra mile.

Does that ease your suspicions, boys? Fourteen year old trolls still manage to, at some point, get back to the topic at hand rather than feeding an OLD fire. But, some of us aren't that classy, are we?

I like Spikes I have nothing bad to say about them. If ya'll stop poking Mr Mustard we wouldn't have but 23 post on this thread.
Parents ought not let children on the net.;)

Other than me Colt bashing, and everyone else aghast at the mere mention of a rifle OTHER than a Colt, are you any closer to a decision on buying or building? What, besides drama, have you drawn from this?

Well Mustard when I started this thread I had already ordered a bushmaster MOE from a wholeseller with the intention of running it hard and if anything breaks fix it with some stuff from my parts bin as well as newer products that have come out. To give you a little background I've own a few ARs and have been on a US Army SRT team since 07. I left the AR platform alone for a little while due to taking up the M24, M21 and M110 rifle systems. I started to miss the old black gun so I'm going to buy more for different set ups.

mighty fine example of your "class".

apparently asking about your smith customer service got your panties in a bunch. you were all to happy to tell us the details about how colt failed you. i thought it only proper that you fill us in on your dealings with smith.

who here is aghast at the mention of another rifle? your hatred of colt seems to have twisted your perception and reading comprehension.

as to the op, i was under the impression that this was a thread simply listing the options.

That too, proven there was an other thread on here that got locked due to the same thing thats going on here someone's opinion and comments pisses other people off. So I attemped to make a thread for info on good out of the box AR's that have a few "extras" for around $1k with some other little bit higher end AR's that professionals are using daily.

I don't hate Colt. I'd buy another if I was in the market, but the experience put a bad taste in my mouth. Now you're trying to put words in it. Never said hate, never. Fanboyism has twisted your comprehension of reality: If I spend my hard earned money on a product, I expect it to be to the sterling standards used by an industry leader like Colt. I can overlook the staking, hell, it would have shot just fine. It's the rudeness and lack of empathy for a customer with a problem arising from a substandard job.

I suggest you rethink the exemplification of "class". I'll not ask you for credentials, nor any experience you have with a Colt. I know they're good, but I'll not buy from the company that set the standards for a LEO/military carbine that simultaneously has poor customer relations. Yes, CS is a HUGE selling point for me, period.

As for exemplifying "class" myself, the poke wasn't directed to you, rather MIL-DOT. I don't take kindly to being under scrutiny, smilies or not. As far as I'm concerned, "class" left town in post #87. My panties are quite straight, I assure you, proven.

They'll all get closed, eventually. In all the forums I frequent, no other conversation excites arguments quite like ARs. Just the way it is.

On a side note, saw you BM MOE. Sweet setup, buddy.

thanks for clarifying. i too, place a huge value on customer service. a company that doesn't stand behind their product deserves not a dime of my money. it's unfortunate that colt failed you.

in terms of fanboyism:D...i do own a 6920, and would gladly accept another, but my next ar type rifle will likely not be one. i have a want/need for a configuration not currently in their line-up. i didn't buy a colt for it's cult-like following and i don't consider them to be the best in the ar world. but i do take issue with the people that bark immediately at anyone who reccomends them or has good words in support of what i know to be an excellent rifle. i suspect there are as many anti-fanboy types as ther are fanboys out there. i find both a bore.

Thank you it shot well yesterday I'm pretty happy with it. The MOE stuff is great I really didn't know how well I'd like but it's good by me. Probably be changing out the bolt and charging handle for a bravocompany and a spikes buffer later down the road.

MOE is very light. Had my first Sport decked out in it, with a red dot, riser, MBUS, 30 round pmag loaded came in at a total weight of roughly 7.25 lbs. not shabby.

Mustard I agree with you in the fact of Ar's. Ar's are like ford mustangs everyone has one and everybody is like "F you mine's better" while jeep, boat, RV, Lifted truck owners all wave at and say high to eachother. Everyone has a different need for their AR and everyone has their thoughts on whats better blah blah blah. Personally I think AR's for home defense is the worst idea ever to each his own if it works for you I'm happy.
