I agree with mustard, nothing gets the fire going like the AR15. It's kinda funny in a way. I bought what I wanted and I'm sure everybody else does too. Don't take any of this too serious. Just get one and shoot it.

I'll say this: In a country like ours where we have the oppurtunity to even own rifles, let alone argue about them, we are lucky.

Called to ask reps if, being that the rifle barrel isn't in-house, do they still stand by it should any issues arise or if it was Thompson Centers baby, beings that it's their barrel, even though they own TC.

The extent of their actions, then, was to say that they would do something if it was necessary? Or did they DO something?

They said that anything needed would be handled by themselves. Never needed to send the Sport in, but I wanted to know who handled what in a situation where the barrel was concerned. Peace of mind that they cover it all.

If you ask me the best out of the box AR for around $1k is the Sig M400. Milspec AR with a fantastic lower! Same lower you find on the much more expensive Sig 516.

It kinda pains me to say it but you can find a Sig M400 for under $1k at most Walmart's, if they have them in stock that is.

Whatever you get, I would't worry too much about how the trigger feels. No matter how nice a milspec trigger you get, one of these days a guy that has a Geissele SSA-E in his rifle is going to let you take a test spin and you won't be able to go back to milspec. I even put a Geissele SSA in my Smith 15/22.

Infidel, it's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission. Actually, if you hunt around, you may be able to find some Geisseles on the used market. Guys will often sell the one they have when upgrading. I know that many go up for sale every time Geissele releases something new.

The SSAs went up for sale when the SSA-E came out, then SSA-Es went up for sale when the three gun trigger came out. What can I say? It's a disease.

I didn't know that Sig had a milspec AR on the market! Damn that is real nice. I love my M&P15 and want another soon. I love the .223/5.56.

So I got to checking out a KEL-TEC SU-16E http://www.tactical-life.com/online/guns-and-weapons/kel-tec-su-16e-556mm/ and got to thinking. If you buy a Kel-tec SU-16CA (around $500 used) and then bought the AR-15 style stock ($129.95 New) you would have a really light "ar-15" for less than $650. Put your sights, flashlight, fore grip on it and to me that would be a pretty fun plinker on the cheap. It's super light, pretty accurate, super light, cheap, super light, takes ar-15 mags, super light, same ammo as your ar-15, super light, piston driven, super light, durable and did I mention it's light weight. Something to think about.

While not in this caliber, I used to own three keltecs. Used to. IMO and IME they are cheap. Not inexpensive, just cheap.

I wouldn't even begin to compare a keltec to a quality AR

Infidel, I've shot a few Keltecs and they were fun. The greatest draw to them is their low cost; however, I'd suggest that you go to their site and read through their FAQ. Keltec's projected service life of their firearms is pretty disappointing.

I wouldn't mind testing an RFB for them!
