The g22 looks cool. But im bettin the votes are gonna show that the ruger 10/22 will be the most popular. I don't own one but i really wish i did. Plus the 30 round magazines make it a pretty desireable choice.

ever or new made? chances are , both could be filled by the Remmy speedmaster. shoots all three 22 type rounds interchangeably, and are beautiful as well. they also make a bdl version , that is truly amazing to look at.

colt woodsman

somthing called a ranger, has slits in the action and you can choose semi or bolt action with it.

OK, I'll play...

I have an OLD Marlin 99...just plain 99, not 99A/B/C. I don't even know how many 10,000's of rounds have gone through that one. About every other year or so, I'll take the action out of the stock, dunk it in mineral spirits, give the barrel a good scrub, etc. Like that 'battery rabbit', just keeps going...going..going.

Had a Nylon 66 as a kid...shot all .22 ammo about the same, EXCEPT for the Rem 'Golden Bullet' HP. Choked on that ammo every time. Go figure that one...a Remmy Rifle that hated Remmy ammo.

Also have a 40th Year edition 10/22, with several of the Butler Creek 25-round Hot Lips magazines. Again, this rifle shoots anything I feed it, but it seems to like the CCI Mini-Mag solids the best. Even shoots the super-cheap (quailty-wise) Remmy Thunderbolts OK. I have not trried any of the so-called "Match" ammo.

I never owned one, but several folks I know have or have had the Remmy "Speedmaster" [or was it the Fieldmaster?? I forget which was the pump vs. autoloader]. 21 rounds of .22Short in the magazine. Lots of shots before reloading.

My choices, in order of preference:

Remington 552
Remington Nylon 66
Marlin 60

If you are looking for good accuracy, I would stay away from the 10/22's.

I have a Marlin 795, which is virtually the model 60 except mag-fed. I like it, it was $120 out the door. There are definately better rifles out there, but after a quick trigger job (manipulate a few springs and you are good to go), it was all I needed.

What price range are you looking at?

Best of the Semi-autos i've had

probably the best STOCK semi-auto ive ever had was the Marlin model 70 HC and its newer version the 795. they are the same gun except for the plasit funiture on the 759. these guns come out of the factory VERY accurate and with a decent trigger pull and is very reliable.

if you want to build your own accurate .22 rifle, the ruger is built for it. i built my own from a stock one. added 16" Clerke heavy barrel, corelight spoerter stock, power custom target hammer, volquartsen bolt buffer.

Ruger 10/22T model is my favorite...

For me its a Ruger 10/22T in Stainless. I really like the TC Classic rifles too.

Also - try rimfirecentral.com and ask this same question... you might just get enough responses to keep you busy for quite a while. :D

Best in what way?

Accuracy? Reliability? Ease of getting parts and upgrading?

My vote is for the Ruger 10/22. Great fun out of the box, LOTS of customizing parts out there whether you want to turn it into a tack-driver or make it tacticool looking.

The Marlin 60 is a tad more accurate out the box than the 10/22 at a cheaper price. Less after market parts for them though. I prefer the Marlin model 70. Pretty much the same as the model 60 but loaded by a removable magazine rather than tube fed.

+1
10/22's are nice if you want to "aftermarket" it. The 60 is a no frills, cheap, accurate 22 that will outlast your grandkids.

There are older 22 semi autos that handle 22 short, long, and long rifle ammo and those are neat.

well i was looking at about the $500 range max, 22 long, i was thinking about the ruger 10-22T target stanless steel with a 3-9 scope not to expensive about 60-80 dollars with 3 10 shot clips or a 25 shot clip. I was also looking at the marlin 60/70 but i am leaning towards the 10-22 wat do u guys think? If you have any pictures thats is nice as well. thx

Hey Tight Shooter, wander over to this place and have a look around:

If you want a rifle to use "as is" for hunting and some target work, the Marlin 60 is a very good pick. If you want a bench rest accurate gun that you don't have to modify to get there, the Thompson Center R-55 Benchmark or Sporter is what you want. If you want to get into all the modifying and tweaking that seems to go with owning the Ruger 10/22, then get the cheapest Ruger you can so you'll have money left to spend on the mods you'll be making.

My dad has this little .22, looks like an m1 carbine. It's called the model m1 989.

Quite sharp looking, rather accurate, but if you pull the trigger too fast, it jams up on ya, best I can do is not recommend it. Maybe it just needed a good cleaning, I don't know. I only did a few quick bursts like that, and it really irritated me.

The Ruger 10/22 looks quite promising, I was going to purchase one, but got an RWS instead. The neighbors wouldn't have liked the noise it would have made whilst squirrel hunting mall ninja style.

You can easily replace the barrel, change stocks rather quickly, and get mags in all shapes, sizes, and materials. Looks like a real winner to me.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the Winchester 63 yet though.
