That's for sure. The Marlin and the Ruger used to be close in price. Ruger figured they could jack up the price for the same rifle -- actually I think the new wood stocks are inferior, not the same. Marlin, on the other hand, started including laminate stocks with basic models, and didn't jack up the price more than the general increase over time.
We'll see how my new Marlin 60 works out for me. Bought one because it was on sale and looks like the perfect mate for a scope that's in my closet. Should make a nice small game and practice rifle.
Ruger's price would be justified if they made the Deluxe Sporter the standard model, but otherwise I think they've gotten a bit greedy. I guess the market will bear it, so more power to 'em. But I know I will think twice before buying another 10/22.
WRT the SA-22 being overrated, sounds right. I haven't owned one. I'd really consider the Remington 552, though I can't say I've ever actually seen one. Love my Marlin 39A, but it's not a semiauto. Well worth the money, believe it or not.
