Best shooting 9mm under $500

I am looking to add a 9mm to the collection. I have a glock and an XD. I am now looking for something with a good trigger strictly for the range. I am thinking possibly the S&W 910S. I want that single action option on this gun. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Used P226 or new CZ75 are good options. I've been putting in range time lately with a Ruger P95 and while the trigger pull isn't the best OOTB, it does get a bit better over time and the pistol is very satisfying in general.

ETA - if you really want the slickest trigger pull in a 9mm (within some rasonable cost ceiling), then you're probably going to wind up looking at the current crop of 9mm 1911's...

I know you already own a Glock but have you considered a G34 or 17L. A little more than $500 but they are great range guns (and my G34is my bedside gun as well). The extra length on the slide/sight radius made a big difference for me.

You should be able to find a Browning Hi Power for about $500. It was the forerunner of todays high capacity 9's. One of the many guns I've sold or traded that I wish I still had.

You can get a Ruger P-95 for under $400.00 and it will shoot the cheapest ammo you can find without jamming. I got mine on sale for $299.99 (reg. $359.99) at MC Sports.

First, I LOVE 3rd Generation Smiths..

I consider that the 3rd gen Smiths as an OVERALL package are a wonderful choice for a self defense 9mm pistol.. Reliability in spades, self defense accurate, built like a Mack truck, quality and value, hard to beat for the money.

Having said that I have never had a 3rd gen Smith 9mm pistol that was as accurate, right out of the box, as my Glock 26's, Sig P239, Walther P99's, even my Bersa Thunder 9/uc, and not nearly as accurate as my HK P7....

Or, as a dedicated "range" gun,a 3rd gen Smith would not be my first choice..

I've heard you can improve the accuracy of a 3rd gen Smith with a barrel recrown job, but since my 3rd gen Smiths are more than adequate for self defense, at self defense range, I never bothered..

I like my Smiths to the extent my CS9 finds it's way into my FIST Kydex IWB holster a lot of the time when I'm carrying a 9mm pistol, but it's not there because it's awesomely accurate... It's there because it's awesomely RELIABLE, TDA, sufficiently accurate for self defense, and I like the way it feels in my hands.

I hear CZ's are very accurate, though that's one brand I have no personal experience with.

Hopefully you will be able to shoot a example of whatever pistols you narrow your final choice down to.

If you are looking for accuracy, the SIG 226 should be the ticket. I have never owned a SIG that was accurate. I like the 226 over the 228 but try them both. They handle different so you may prefer the 228.

3rd Gen S&W if you can find one. These are no longer produced, but you can get some in good shape used.

A CZ75 variant is another good option.

For range use only, this may not be the best, but if you ever want to carry it, I will be the first to suggest the Bersa Thunder 9 Ultra Compact. I have one. I love it. I will never sell it. GET YOUR OWN! It and my XD9 are among the most reliable handguns I've ever had the pleasure of handling.
