A month after the OP, my two new rifles are ready to hunt. It took some work, but I think it was worth it. These are the first Savage and T/C that I own. Here is what I did after my OP to each (photo below, top is 358, bottom is 223). Compare to OP photo. Both are sub MOA.

Savage Axis II 358. The great deal, Bushnell scope included, turned out not so great; it required me to replace the Bushnell with a Vortex. The eye relief on the Vortex is twice that of the Bushnell at max magnification. On the bench, the Bushnell would just kiss the bridge of my nose. I figured in the field, shooting at a 6x6 Elk, I’d get bloody. Added sling, paint, closed cell foam in stock.

T/C Venture II 223. Spent about 5 hours redoing the factory mag to make it reliable and fool proof. Spent about 4 hours hand lapping the barrel. Added sling, paint, closed cell foam in stock.

My goal for painting the stock was to approximate wood colors. Here you can see the T/C in the rack with a Colt, Weatherby, Winchester, Tri-Star and Remington. It also shows I’m pretty brand loyal, LOL :)
