Yesterday I purchased a S&W 619 4". I have been waiting for a 6" since Feb. this year. I had my dealer call S&W and was told he shouldn't be looking for them any time soon. Supplier wouldn't even guess on shipment. They had a 4" there so I bought it. Shooting it last evening I was very disappointed in the groups I was marking. All shots within 2" but I shoot better than that. Do you all think the gun and I will break in together and my groups improve?. This is the first 4" I have owned. I just got tired of waiting till God know when for a 6". Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The only difference in accuracy between a 4" and a 6" barrel is the sight radius and our eyes. The longer the distance between the sights the more accurate we can aim. Saying that all guns are not created equal. Some just shoot better than others. Also guns sometimes shoot some ammo better than others.

Cheers,

ts

At what distance were you shooting? Double action or single? Try some mid-range wadcutters. A 4" should be every bit as accurate as a 6".

Mas Ayoob did a review of the 619 and 620 some years back when they first appeared. He damned them with faint praise.

Mas did not find either model to be particularly accurate.

Were I you, I'd check the two piece barrel and make sure the shrond is tight on the barrel. They work loose and the nut that holds on the shround can only be tightened with a proprietary tool that S&W doesn't sell. You have to ship the gun to S&W for repair when this happens.

Try giving the barrel a good scrub with JB Borebright and try some jacketed ammunition too. I've seen where these post 2002 revolvers with their EDM rifling don't group worth a damn with lead bullets but are less inaccurate when shooting jacketed rounds.

I'm sure the S&W fanboys will be along to tell you that its just you and not that "innovative" revolver.

Again, were I you, I'd trade that 619 for a nice pre lock 66 with a six inch barrel. :) Good luck!

As far as I know the M619 was never made in a 6" barrel.

I bought one about 6 years ago and it is one of the best shooting .357 Magnums I have ever shot. Mine is very accurate and it feels great in my hand. a few family members also prefer to shoot that over the M686 too. I like the 2 piece barrel configuration. Unfortunately a few years back I needed cash and sold it. IMO I made a big mistake letting that revolver go...

Try other ammo.
I have a 9mm that dislikes 115gr ammo of any sort (at least the ones I tried)
So I tried 124 gr & it shoots like a champ.
