BIG $ Optics question

If budget is not an issue, spend the $ and get a a Zeiss V/VX. They are pricey, way more than the Conquest line, but the light gathering capability and optical clarity are second to none. I have used Swarovski and have many Leupolds that are fine scopes. However, my Zeiss allows me to see earlier at dawn and later at dusk than anything that I have experience with. If I was on a once in a lifetime hunt, this is the scope I would take with me simply because of the light gathering ability might allow me to get in a shot that I otherwise not be able to see. If you are punching paper during daylight hours, by a Leupold in the proper configuration and you will be unlikely to notice any difference in optical quality that would affect your accuracy. JMHO.

S&B or a Swarovski but thats just dreaming. Only optics i have that cost more the 600 bucks are my accupoint and a couple acogs. Most of my scope shopping revolves around the 3-500 dollar range.

I don't know. If I was on a "once in a lifetime" hunt, glass quality wouldn't be my first criteria for choosing a scope. When you get to that caliber of scope, they are all going to be good in terms of glass quality. I'd be more concerned about getting the scope that has good glass, but is also least likely to break or loose its zero because it was dropped or bumped.

A good choice of scope that offers a very robust build and good glass would probably be a Nightforce, in terms of bang for the buck. Personally, I've had and used a few USO scopes and prefer the Nightforce line. If I were to forego robustness of build in favor of glass quality, I would probably go for something in the Swarovski line that is comparable in price.

The S&Bs, Premiers and Hensoldts are in a league of their own. Although I have heard that the Hensoldts can be funny about loosing their zeros, the S&Bs and Premiers offer top quality glass and robust builds.

Leupold. Trying to find "the best" is an exerciste that will drive you crazy. I'm not joking, read a book called "Paradox of Choice" and you will understand. I go with Leupold. They are very good scopes. I've never been disappointed with them. I don't know if they are the best, but I know they have a no BS warranty and I do know people who have sent in 30 year old scopes and Leupold has taken care of them without complaint.

If money were truly no object, the scopes that the military uses would be my pick or those used by professional hunters on African plains game. You are talking about $1,500- $2,500 however.
