I was just listening to Oriley. He was commenting on the New Orleans gun issue about the cops taking the gun from the elderly lady, who objected, and was taken down and her gun taken. U tube.
Oriley described her as the problem. He then said that people who buy guns should not object to having to wait seven days to pick it up because he had to wait that long to pick up his dry cleaning, and that we should just get used to it.

BOBE,

He is changing the subject then.

Yesterday, a caller corrected him by pointing to that video when O'Riley tried to say that confiscations DIDN'T occur as it was reported.

He was very short with the caller, and when the caller mentioned the NRA as the source, Bill said:

Oh, I am supposed to take the NRA as truth?

The caller (who I admire now) persisted and challenged him to SEE the tape before dismissing it.

Bill said he will look at it, and if he is wrong, he will say so.

Seems that he HAS to admit that it DID happen, so instead of eating crow, he BLAMES the old lady????

Bill is on notice.

Bill O'Reilly has always been a rude idiot. Newsflash.

Wrong.

The NEXT caller after the guy that pointed out the NRA video spent 5 minutes telling O'Reilly how great he was.

Bill was as pleasent as my grandmother to him. He even sent him an autographed book AND maded a donation in his name.

As long as you are kissing his ___, he loves you.

Last night Bill had a pro gun guest on his show, who in my opinion told it like is. HE DID NOT DEBATE HIM. In stead he acted like he agreed with the guest on all his points. How can you believe anything he says?

I got the impression yesterday from Bill's radio show that he started getting a little worried that the "NRA" friendly conservative base was going to start walking away from him (and his $$ show.)

After he made the comment about "Why should I take what the NRA says as truth?" (paraphrased) I audibly noticed him start backing himself off and moderating his tone as well as qualifying his statements.

I think a little voice started talking in his head warning him of the ramifications of alienating his bread-and-butter.

After all, the callers were largely PRO-gun.

I think a little voice started talking in his head warning him of the ramifications of alienating his bread-and-butter.

That voice was probably his producer telling him to lay off or they'd have to deal with a jammed phone circuit from all the gun owners he'd just maligned.

Justin,

I think you are right.

While I was listening to that piece on the way home yesterday, I imagined his version of Rush Limbaugh's "Mr. Snurdley" over off the set turning red, his eye twitching, and generally having an anurism while holding up a sign to "Shut the ____ up."

John

I feel like the luckiest person in the world, since no local radio stations carry Mr. O'Rielly's show. Thank the Gods.

As Howard Dean once said; "Bill O'Rielly does whats best for Bill O'Rielly."

I remember hearing Bill O'Reilly saying, in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina, that his views had changed, and that he himself was going to go out and buy a gun because he realized that in a situation like that one, the police could not be depended upon for protection.
Lately, as in the subject in this thread, he seems to have drifted back towards the left on gun ownership. He is still for gun ownership, but with restrictions decided upon by the individual states. He is for gun registration. His views seem to change, depending which side of an issue he is on, and what his show is about, that particular day.

Yikes, do you really want to quote Howard Dean on a gun board?

Regardless of his other stances, what he said about Bill is correct. I thought it was very insightful understanding of what makes Bill tick.

Bill has always believed in very strict gun laws, similar to NYS and even NYC. Which translates to no; Assualt type rifles, high capacity magazines, CCW, hording ammo, reloading, and all guns must be registered with the state.

O'Reilly ain't perfect...but he's a heck of a lot more on our side than any other big, prime time, TV personality is.

hehe...oh I don't think you are wrong on 99.999% of the cases.

But it seems that if you spend your call telling ole Bill how great he is, you get a free book. :)

O'Reilley flip flopping on guns? Nah - just going back to his roots so to speak.

Here's an example:

I'm pro capital punishment. Fry the fatherless SOB's, inject 'em, put a bullet behind their ear - I don't care just rid society of their useless selves. Get it.

Now - I've seen my share of death - most of it pretty unpleasant but I once saw a guy electrocuted (the faces of death movie). For about a week after seeing that I was no longer pro-death penalty - that's how horrible that guys death was (faked or real - I don't know).

But within the week the image receded into the depths of my memory and once again I was pro-death penalty and remain so to this day.

The same thing happened to O'Reilley. After Katrina the images of defenseless folk stuck in his mind. Having a gun made sense. As time went on and the memories fade so do his reasons for being pro-gun and he returns to his root beliefs.

At least that's the way I see it.

Then again he's such an arrogant media whore that maybe he just makes his public opinions fit what his mindless audience thinks it wants that day.

Either way O'Reilley is a waste of oxygen and the sooner he's recycled the better.

Bill O'Reilly has stated that there should be some restirctions on gun purchases.

He has also stated that people do have the right to own guns to protect themselves, because events like katrina show that there are times when the government cannot protect you.

O'Reilly was also highly critical of San Franciso's attempt to comeplte ban guns.
