Bore axis in autos

Thought to revisit this the other day. Been fooling with a 1910 Browning, and laid it atop a PPK Walther. This last is noted as a 'snappy' pistol. The Browning still lets you know it went off, but it is far less rappy than the Walther.
Laid one atop the other, and the little Browning (it really is amazingly small) has a much lower bore axis.
Browning went out of his way to make the 1910 compact, apparently being the first to let the recoil spring surround the barrel. The Walther shares this feature, but the DA/SA lockwork takes up more space than the 1910's striker.
