I recently ordered some Lyman Brass Polish for my tumbler, but Amazon has yet to ship it and that's been over a week. I know we have to be patient these days, but is there any other product I can buy locally that would work?

Tablespoon Nu Finish, tablespoon of paint thenner....run 5-10 min w/out brass....cut used dryer sheet into 4ths, add brass and sheets. I run 1-2 hrs. Throw away dryer sheets.
I do the same minus the paint thinner!

I now use the dry tumbler to tarnish proof finished ammo so not running it so long. I do use NuFinish as well. The reason for paint thinner is to allow the polish to mix faster and to get some of the crud on the media dissolved and on the dryer sheets.

+1 for NuFinish. I still have to try out the dryer sheets. I was just going thru some brass I tumbled in '17, still looks great and ready to load.

I won't use any "abrasive" polish, rouge, etc. for tumbling. When I want/need more aggressive cleaning, like for rusty parts/tools or heavily tarnished brass I use a more aggressive media. I have some HF hard resin tumbling media. When I use it straight it leaves a matte finish on my brass, so I mix it with my corn cob blast media, at mebbe 25%. I use an auto cleaner/wax for tarnish protection and I get the "shine" I want by the time tumbled (I only need a shine on my 30-06 Garand brass and my 1911 brass so I can find them easier). My experience with heavy tumbling in my machine shop days taught me a lot about tumbling parts. There are many, many methods of tumbling cartridge brass and many, many formula for media and additives but I have found K.I.S.S. to be the best overall and to not overthink the process...

Thanks for the advice guys. I bought some NUFinish this pm and used it in combo with denatured alcohol (didn't have any paint thinner) and after 90 minutes in my tumbler with walnut media I had bright shiny brass. i had ordered some Lyman Brass Polish from Amazon a week ago, but it still had not shipped so I cancelled the order. Saved some bucks in the process too.

Capfull of Nu Finish, two dryer sheets torn into quarters and 1 capfull of mineral spirits. 1-1/2 hours later and clean, shiny brass. This will last at least three loads before adding more Nu Finish or mineral spirits. I toss it as soon as it gets dirty.

I got a Frankfort Armory tumbler or father's day and tumbled brass for the first time with it the following week. I used a 5lb bag of white rice, a dab of Mothers Aluminum wheel polish mixed up into a bit of paint thinner. Very shiny smooth after a couple hours.

I bought the cheapest liquid car wax they had at Walmart. I mix 1 capful with 1 capful of mineral spirits, let the tumbler run for 20 minutes, then add the brass. I also add the used dryer sheets. Works great.

I buy Dillon brass polish from the LGS, it works as well as anything I've ever used. It's also the only Dillon product that graces my bench... for all you Blue Kool-Aid drinkers out there... ;)

Just do not use Brasso or any of the commercial brass polisher compounds. It works very well but contains ammonia, which is not good for cases. (Weakens them by chemical reaction.) Not a problem for belt buckles or lamps, but bad for thin brass.

Nufinish in the tumbling media. Again.

I am just about at the end of my can of Iosso brass polish purchased about eight years ago. It works but will be replaced with NuFinish when gone.

Have you tried just using plain tumbling media? I started tumbling my brass way pre-web and got no "internet wisdom" on what is "necessary", and walnut lizard litter (dark brown) from PetSmart worked great by itself...

As did I. Straight up corncob back in the day, now I use walnut.

I will leave the debate as to whether NuFinish does any polishing for others. I only use it because it is not a wax, and it protects the cases from fingerprints and oxidation.

Come to think of it, one of my daughters just got a job at Petco with a hefty employee discount.

MDI - Yup, so did I....but, on another board, someone recommended NuFinish, and since I had it on hand I tried it and liked it. Then someone said try mineral spirits addative, again it was on hand and I tried it. There was always dust when separating brass, so when someone recommended dryer sheets to catch the dust, I tried it too.

Edit: the above is only for nongritty brass; if the range brass is really dirty, I soak it in a 5 gal bucket of soapy water, agitate and rinse.

Oh my. I tried rice ONCE. Spent hours poking bits of rice out of flash holes. Very bad media for me. I'd just use warm soapy water and dry in the sun before ever using rice again.....

Not to mention that was one of the worst dinners later that night - that rice tasted funny. :)
