Bucket List Purchases

Almost all my guns were bought with the idea that I want to shoot them and experience them, but I definitely have some for which I have no real “need.” Actually that’s every gun I ever bought after I finally got a reliable pistol for self-defense.

But really, shotguns qualify, for me, in the spirit of this thread. I buy them because they’re cool but I hardly ever shoot them and when I do I can’t hit the broad side of a barn.I catch myself thinking “I should get an auto 5,” or “wow that double looks nice, I want it” and have to remind myself that at this rate if I bought it today it would be decades before it saw any range time.

Hmmm interesting discussion! My bucket list in general is all cars and guns. :) not a cruise on it, unless a boatride to a secluded hunting spot counts. Most of my gun list tends to be custom stuff. I wanna build a long range/magnum hunting rifle with. Mod70 action, and likely in 300 PRC, on of the few “modern” cartridges I actually care about. Of course a beautiful pre-64 mod 70 in 270 would be a dream come true. My barber just bought one of the state edition Trump Henry rifles (#18 iirc).! Politics aside it’s a beautiful gun, but he’s not gonna shoot it. I’d like something like that, but tbh my list is all about shooting. That’s what their for after all. :) I’d like a matching set of 1911s in 9mm, 38super, 45 acp, and 10mm. I’d like to build a bighorn arms action based precision rife. And a hunting rifle. One that is easy to swap barrels/cartridges. I think I’ve spent the entirety of several years gun budgets already.

HK SP5. Currently on the hunt for one
they had one at my local in Seattle . a touch over $3,000 for a something that weights nothing. I just don’t see the appeal. Don’t get me wrong, I have a CZ Scorpion and a few AR-9’s but they cost well under $1,000 and the AR-9’s are in the hundreds of $$$$ and take glock mags… lol

But $3,000 my wallet hurts

Have you ever bought something you have no earthly use for just because you always wanted it?

Thirty years ago I bought this .460 Weatherby, and recently a .500 Smith for that reason. I have never shot them and never will, but I like having them. Make any sense?

What were your bucket list purchases, if any?

"Never shot them and never will, make sense?"

No, can't say that it does.

I would buy something and have bought many things I didn't "need", but not shooting them would be out of the question for me. But how you get enjoyment and value out of something is kind of a personal thing I guess so more power to you. I get enjoyment out of looking guns over and feeling them in hand, etc... but the bulk of my enjoyment comes from shooting.

Honestly, almost all of my guns fall into this category. It can be argued that "need" guns are limited to things like defensive weapons, hunting rifles, and perhaps a .22 as a trainer. And of course, considering how many folks exist without any guns at all, it can be argued that "need" is entirely make-believe.

So I'll just say that some of my gun purchases are even less rational than others, and that the guns I don't even try to justify are, in many ways, my favorites.

BARRET_002.jpg

I live in an urban/suburban area. I have no where to shoot one and ammo and mags are very expensive, but I still plan on buying one. A semi auto 50 bmg.

Other than that, I want a 2" Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan for no other reason than I think it looks cool. I have zero piratical use for one.

I also have a Scorpion (Not under $1k here FYI) & they are not in the same league. Mind letting me know what shop? Link?

I got my Shiloh Sharps earlier this year, so one down. I would like to find a m1a loaded but I'm not looking too hard right now.

Always wanted a 50/50. That'd be a Barret bolt action and a Desert Eagle in 50 . Nowhere to shoot the Barret around here, and the Desert Eagle, well it'd be a safe queen.

I have been really trying to figure out what my grail guns are. The closest I have is the Blood Work revolver. It’s so expensive now my cold pragmatism would never let me buy one.

After that….nothing. And there never has been.

I tend to think a lot of folks see something neat in the LGS and tell themselves it’s a grail gun or bucket list item of theirs just to justify the purchase. You don’t need to do that.

Just buy it.

I’m with you, I bought several well many guns at the Local because it was cool.

I don't have many left before my list is complete, but here it is:

Browning Sweet 16
LC Smith Hammer 10 gauge
Winchester 1892 32-20 SRC
Savage 99, 300 Savage
A Krag sporter, because I've always admired them for some reason.
Colt Gov't Model 1911 in 38 Super
Colt Python 3", S&W 66 3", or S&W 19 3", which ever one I come across first.

The next gun I buy will likely be one of the 3" revolvers, but I wouldn't turn anything on the list down if I came across it reasonable enough. Some are really expensive guns, but a couple (like the Krag) can be found reasonably cheap. They all have "appeal" to me.

I am with you there. I think the allure of the $3k HKs are who makes it, it's an original manufacturer's copy of a military gun rifle, not many have them, so it's a collectible and gets you cool points if you own one. It's also a status symbol for some. On the HK and other forums, they like to joke about how those who don't own one or who are critical of the price point are "Poors." If you buy an HKs over all others, you are no longer a part of the "Poors" club...

They do not do anything fictionally wise better than CZ Scorpions, Stribogs, and AR9s IMHO. If I were to get one, I'd get the PTR CT9 or KT9 or wait for the Palmetto State Armory version. Unless you are a collector, there's no point in buying the overpriced HK version in my opinion. I can afford it if I wanted one, but I'm not and refuse to pay $3k for a 9mm without the happy switch. One of their main purpose of existence is to be able to fire full with low recoiling rounds. Without being full auto, it's just a glorified handgun with a longer barrel and arm brace. IMHO.

If you are a collector and want guns by the original manufacturer, e.i., Colt AR and 1911s, Browning Highpoints vs Springfield Arms, CZ 75s vs all the clones, so on and so forth, then it's well worth the $3kish price tag.

It’s not, I can’t afford it, it’s, I don’t want to afford it.

But again, To each his own. I’m not trying to tell anybody how to live their lives . If a SP5 is on your Bucket list! BUY IT!

Same here again. There ate clones that cost a lot less for those who want the shooting experience without the cost.

There are a lot of things I want until I ask myself if I also want to have to buy the ammo for them.

And then I think to myself “Well gee, if I only have enough time to shoot once every few months, do I want to shoot that? Or would I rather shoot one of my other, more exciting guns?” And then I don’t have the motivation to buy a new gun that day.

Having never had Any type of scope on a gun,

it would interesting to put one on my railed PTR-91,

as long as it doesn’t block a hand pulling/ rotating the charging handle.

Don’t know how long good vision can last at age 66.

I find lately that I see something that I thought I wanted and see that it doesn't interest me any more. Most of my acquisitions are accidental, I just run across something or something is gifted to me. No defined concerted searching.
