Looking to pick up a varmint-hunting scope, variable power with at least 20x at the top end. Also can't spend more than $400.

I've narrowed it down to Nikon Monarchs and Bushnell Elite 4200s.

I own several Nikons but am curious if the Bushnell Elite 4200 might be comparable.

If you own both of these scopes, or just the Bushnell Elite, can you tell me your impressions?

Thanks!

I own two Monarchs and two Elites. The 4200 I own seems to be a little more clearer than the Monarch. It is hard to tell. You won't go wrong with either one of those two makes.

I own both and have no complaints one way or the other.
If push came to shove I'd probably give the slight nod to the Nikon only because the Bushnell Elite 4200 is a longer and heavier scope by comparison, and that is splitting hairs.
Take Care

These are both very good scopes. Very close to each other
optically and otherwise. As has been mentioned the Bushnell
is longer and heavier. Both have good adjustments, both
are bright. Both are reliable in my limited experience.

Thanks to all who responded!

Anyone else care to volunteer info?

I've got a CZ527 standard weight rifle in .223 I need a scope for.

Scope might look a tad large on the rifle, but I'll live with it.

Think it will fit with CZ medium height rings?
