So i was sitting down watching tv thinking how will i get the wife to agree to another. I bought my son z HK45c for xmas. He hasnt seen it yet hes in the army. But just playing with his HK45C , I like it alot. It almost feels exactly like holding my HK P30Ls 40sw. Same size. The local shop has both full and compact. I wanna look , touch and feel before i buy. The full size i hear is bigger than the FNX 45. I have that. Oh bye the way wife said if i give her my FNX45 i can replace it with anything i want. So its a go. Tomorrow i buy!!!. But after the looksie. Anyone have any pros or cons about either?

They’re excellent pistols & it would be hard to go wrong with either of them. The HK45C is quite a bit more popular than the full size HK45 & IMO, anything the HK45 can do, the 45C can do & when it comes to CC, the Compact actually does it slightly better. From the factory, the HK45 holds two more rounds (10) than the Compact, but HK does make a 10-round mag for the Compact.

Both are well designed , well built excellent shooters that come in a variety of fire/control options - nine total. My 45C is a light LEM (V7), which is my preference when it comes to HK’s polymers. It does double duty, spending the evenings atop the nightstand & waking hours on my waist.

Ken Hackathorn & Larry Vickers had quite a bit of input when the HK45 was still in its’ design stage ... here’s an excellent write-up on Hackathorn, Vickers & the HK 45/45C:

Stop it stop it... I don't need another 45. Just because my wife's vp9 is a joy to shoot and I read this thread doesn't mean I need to go to hks site to get the model number of the one I may "need". Lol.. this is one expensive forum.

Good luck on your new purchase. I've only just recently picked up my fn fnx45 tactical. Might be fall before I fill the next pistol.

I only said yes to the FNX 45 cuz i knew it is really mine still. I love that gun accurate as hell. So now i will get ready and try to do my best picking one out. I kinda already know which one and i think its the C version. My sons HK45c is such a nice gun. Still being shinny and new doesnt help my decision. Ill let you soon.

I very much like all the HK .45 pistols.

Here is a write up I did for the HK45C. Since I wrote that the trigger has gotten quite a bit better. It’s still not gonna win any trigger of the year awards but all of a sudden it did get noticeably better.

I think the HK45c is a helluva good do it all platform.

Truth be told, with a flat floorplate 8 round magazine it’s actually a pretty tidy little carry package. It is about Glock 19 sized but SEEMS bigger then it is.

Does it really. I have this app that compares 2 guns. Every which way. It even has this opaque thing. And doing that. The HK looks huge to the FNX. Fnx is big. I got one. It was hard for me to believe it. Its not a app. Heres the link.

Do they have the HK45 available on that sight to compare, or just the USP45?

They are different guns. The HK45 was basically designed to make a more ergonomic version of the USP45.

Gotta say, I recently picked up a HK45c and am enamored with it, so grain of salt.

But I looked at the full size too, and it does feel a bit bigger, IMO than the FNX, though I always have felt the FNX feels a little flimsy especially with no mag.

IMO I like the 45c better. The full mag with the "horse hoof" floor plate feels really good in the hand and it shoots better than my full size 1911s, at least in terms of recoil and getting back on target quick and easy.

Mine carries as easily as my Glock 19 (spare mag does take more work to conceal) and shoots nearly as well in rapid shooting drills, I can still manange a sub 5 second FAST consistently, which I can't do with my VBob or Glock 30S (when I had it). Not quite to the 4.5 or under I do with the 19, but I've only been at it a few weeks.

My HK45c is a V1 so it's got the safety/decocker and I really like it, hate it on the P30 as the shorter grip puts the decocker in an awkward and uncomfortable place for my 1911 trained hands.

My only complaint with the HK45c vs the full size is the grip is a bit slick. I'm no HK purist but I dont actually like the P30/HK45 grip all that much so I don't miss that, I just wish it had a bit more texture. Tried the rubber Talon grips and they didnt quite do it, probably just do some skateboard tape on the front/backstraps next.

Extra mags are really hard to find right now, if that's a consideration.

No they’re not. I just need to go into my storage and grab a few if needed. :p. ;)

Always nice to have, I can do that with Glocks and 1911s and various long guns. New to the HK game, wrong time to jump in :)

Managed to get a decent half dozen 10 rounders easy enough but the 8 round mags are harder to find.

Many folks & even some HK faithful chide HK Oberndorf for their unwillingness to introduce a new or new-fangled pistols on an annual basis. Traditionally, HK has always tooled-up for & maintained its’ livelihood by way of military & LE requirements & contracts.

As of late & albeit slowly, Oberndorf’s focus is slightly shifting toward the civilian market’s wants & desires.

While other major manufacturers RUSH new and, again, new-fangled models off to the Shot Show on an annual basis, some of which are recalled shortly after production commences, HK just plods along like that proverbial tortoise.

With HK, slow is good & a couple examples come to mind. Oberndorf spent five years designing & tweaking the VP9 before releasing it to the civilian market. Likewise, instead of just taking their P30 to the guillotine, the P30SK was in developement for nearly three years before hitting the market. If I’m not mistaken, the only (sporadic) issue to arise with either pistol, was with the VP9’s recoil spring, an issue HK engineers addressed when they replaced the VP9 spring with a stronger (VP40) recoil spring assy.

Well boys im back and waiting my 3 days. I looked at both side by side pretty close. The only difference between the two HK45 & HK45c are 2 bullets. I bought the compact. I got a gun , case , back straps , 3 (8) rnd magazines. Night sights. Thats about it i think. $ 899.00 out the door in 3 days.

Wow nice deal for the night sights and 3 mags in today's market.

Are you sure it wasn't the person pulling the trigger getting quite a bit better with pulling that particular trigger? :D That is my experience with the LEM.

The 45c looks great. If I weren't trying to keep my ammunition footprint to a minimum, I would buy one.

While i was checking out i was asking a few questions about the compact HK45c. The guy said that all i have to do is buy the Tactical Barrel and drop it in , and its a HK45 Compact Tactical. No other extra parts. Thats pretty good to know. I think the HK barrel is 250 or so. But can be made by EFK Fire Dragon Barrels for less. $199.00. I currently have a xtra .357 sig barrel being made for my FNX 40SW. Ill see how that is before another. So my FNX 40 will shoot 2 calibers now.
Heres a link for the HK barrels.

Hope i clear by friday. Id like to shoot it.

Buy her a really nice dress or a purse and then show her the new HK you bought for yourself, She will not get mad.
Works all the time.

Mine shot great. Accurate and reliable. Only downside was the rail is useless. No light I could find would mount to it due to the trigger guard.

Good to know. Olight wasn't a thing when I had mine.

Yeah, your post got me to wander downstairs and pull it off my Glock to try, I see what you mean though, if it wasn't so adjustable fitment would have been an impossibility.
