i've never done this before...........but i've have been considering it lately.
i was wondering if anyone has had experience, (good or bad) ,doing this with Cabelas.....??

Thanks all!:)

I've had great luck with every mail order purchase I've done. Maybe I'm lucky. Cabelas pricing I've found to be higher than most, and in my state, I get hit with tax

Bought ammo from them via Internet order - worked just fine, other than the fact that they weren't the cheapest.

I prefer AmmunitionToGo.

I've only bought locally when I need something right away, like I'm low on something and on the way to the range. I usually try to keep a sufficient stock on hand to avoid locally high prices. Cabelas has an excellent reputation. For the best prices use Gun-Deals.com to compare different vendors. Be prepared to wait on back ordered or slow to ship merchandise. We all are experiencing the spring flood of ammo sales right now.

Full disclosure - I am not affiliated in any way with Gun-Deals.com except as a satisfied customer.

Fella's;

I get the Midway, Natchez, and a coupla other smaller fliers regularly. I, for the life of me, can't figure out what's going on with mail order ammo sales. I've never seen a deal worth doing with mail-order. Whatever I want has always been available locally for less money. Especially since a Miwall rep is at the local gun show twice a year. Good grief! The shipping alone on lead must be horrendous.

Either all the gun shops in Montana are halo-bearing good guys & all others everywhere are behorned capitalistic devils, or there's something else that I'm not factoring in.

I've used Sportsman's Guide and had great service.
I order, UPS leaves it at my door.

Right now they seem to be out of everything.

Just received 200 rounds of 5.56mm. from Cabela's. Took a month because of the Obama surge ... but I got it OK. I've ordered ammo from Cabela's & Cheaper Than Dirt and never had a problem.

Basically your only problem is likely to be finding what you want in stock.

Most all my ammo has been mail order (before the Internet allowed commerce) or on-line.

Shipping vs. sales tax is usually a wash and I let the UPS guy do the heavy lifting :)

I normally buy 9x19 and .22LR from local shops when it is on sale ....
Everything else I buy online. When the local dealer wants $20-$24 for one box of S&B .32acp and I can get it for $12 from Natchez, I buy 10 boxes from Natchez. When locals want $14-$16 for a $9 box of Brown Bear 9x18, I buy it online! When they want $24 for a box of .25acp....(YIKES!)....I buy it online for $14.

NOTE: I buy most of my guns from my two favorite local shops though. They still get plenty of cash from me.

I usually order from Natchez, Coles, Sportsman's Guide, Graf & Sons, and Cabela's. Shipping charges range from $5 to $13 on the average.....I also make use of any free shipping or discount code promotions. As was said, shipping is usually a wash over local sales tax.
I have also learned the fine art of back-order to keep the flow going. Cabela's seems to have the best-managed back-order system. They only charge you as the boxes are shipped and split the total order's shipping charge among the various actual shipments. That's how I keep .380acp coming in regularly now.
And I always prefer to have ammo delivered right to my front porch than have to run around the city and countryside looking for it!

My ammunitiontogo order went away.
I had ordered 10000 rounds of Blazer .22 according to the charge on my credit card on 2/14. Then I asked for a status and received a promise to ship which I should have had about 3/20. I asked for status again and received an "I forgot to ship it". I commented a please send but I don't think I'll be ordering again. Well, the owner apparently had a hissy fit and cancelled my order. Fine, give me a refund. At least I received the 2000 rounds of .22 MiniMags. Apparently it's new math as the refund assumed that it costs $45 to ship 2000 rounds of .22 The saga continues today as I've requested a correction on the shipping and refunding the other $34 I believe I'm owed. I've bought a lot of stuff online, but this is the first time I've run up against such poor business practices. I bet the ammo will be sold now for more than what I thought I was going to pay.

I have had good experiences with many online ammo dealers. Ammunitiontogo.com (the story above notwithstanding) is the cheapest place for most buckshot ans slugs. AMSurplus and JGSales often have good prices on Wolf ammo, and The Sportsman's Guide actually has decent prices on ammo, too.

For pistol ammo, though, check out www.precisioncartridge.com. I have ordered from them before and their ammo is fantastic. Cheap, superb quality remanufactured brass-cased ammo with reasonable shipping rates. They have contracts with dozens of law enforcement agencies and their prices on 9mm and .40 can't even be beat by Wolf. They load everything up to and including .50 AE and .500 Smith and Wesson, and they are located in myhome state of Indiana. Great business.

I've had thousands of rounds left on my porch that I've bought from a variety of sources. I generally look for the best deal with price, shipping, and taxes factored in. I don't buy from Cabelas mostly because I've found what I want cheaper other places.

It's the only way I buy ammo.

NJ local prices are outrageous. Example:

Box of blazer locally - $19.99 + tax
Natchez - - - - - - - $9.49

shipping winds up being less than tax if you buy 10 boxes at a time.

I bought some commercial 7.62x54R online from Cabela's when they had "free shipping" promotion last year. Fast service, no problems.

I have used ammunitiontogo several times. In fact I just received an order from them today. The shipping costs are less than I would pay in sales taxes locally and if you shop them you can great deals on ammo. Currently they have NO .45 ACP FMJ tho.:uhoh:

I've purchased well over 25,000 rounds mail order. No big problems. Pick a reputable dealer is all.

I concur.

More specifically, I've ordered the Cabelas .243 bulk, both in 100gr and .75, at the same time, and was a happy camper- generally i've fond better deals on ammo elsewhere though, but when they have free shipping rebates, go for it.

Cabelas is an upstanding company, and i've never had a problem with them after multiple orders of a range of stuff.
